RETRO INTRO - DEPECHE MODE/MAC

My original intro bought back for this final instalment!

CHEMICAL FUNK - DADAMNPHREAKNOIZPHUNK

I'd completely forgotten all about this 'side project' by Ramon Zenker & Oliver Bonzio until very, very recently.

Before I'd reaquainted myself with this, I genuinely thought that I was a Hardfloor completist, it turns out that there are another couple of full albums for me to add to my collection, I'd better devote some dedicated 303 time for this. I'm fairly sure that these releases coincided with my partial memory wipe. I now remember that I used to give this record an extreme amount of usage, probably to the dismay of my neighbours in Greenwich.

I've also just remembered putting together a minidisc (very old format) mix called DADAMEECHNOIZEPHUNK, a completely different sounding beast to MEECH'S HARDFLOOR 90, so that'll have to be added to the 'to do' list.

*The Hardfloor connection providing the first parallel to my early journey compilations, attributable to Vangelis Techno on PLANETMEECH 2

BUTTERFLY CAUGHT - MASSIVE ATTACK

This is quite a renowned remix by the renowned musical lynchpin Jagz Kooner, formerly of The Sabres Of Paradise and The Aloof. Initially forming part of my recent show, The Butterfly Attack, but quite rightly removed for the way too literal connection.

*Massive Attack first featured on my third ever journey tape,

EVEN BETTER : GLASTONBURY 92

DARE - GORILLAZ

Another track that I'd forgotten all about, until being reminded of it whilst watching something completely unrelated. If I'd have found myself putting together travel compilations around about 2005, then this would have surely been included. These first few releases were passed to me around the early 00's, but I didn't really connect to them, probably due to the unwarranted Oasis/Blur association I held.

*I did also feature a Shaun Ryder guest vocal on NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MEECH with Intastella.

DANCIN' ON A SATURDAY NIGHT - BARRY BLUE

No connection to my early pre computing work, but when I first stumbled upon this, I nearly fell off my chair!

I recognised the sample straight away from a Glam Raiders 12" on Skint that I used to play with extreme enthusiasm.

*Glam Raid by Space Raiders could easily have appeared on MEECH'S SKINT 4, but ultimately featured on THE TURNMILLS TIME MACHINE.

ROCK ON - DAVID ESSEX

Caught this completely out of the blue as well, rounding out my Glam Rock mini section of sorts.

I knew it! with that accent, David Cook was never going to call himself David Gloucestershire.

*The Artilleryman from Jeff Waynes War Of The Worlds linking up just about to

my DIRE STRAITS R YANKS project.

ROFOROFO FIGHT - FELA KUTI

Anyone familiar with Better Living Through Chemistry by Fatboy Slim will recognize this from the samples incorporated on First Down.

*That track (First Down) was used to open up MEECH'S SKINT 4.

TRAMPLED UNDER FOOT - LED ZEPPELIN

This will make you sit up and take notice!

These masters of the riff, showing off their mastery of the riff.

TIME IS ON YOUR SIDE - EARTH, WIND & FIRE

When the large format record stores knew that their time was almost up, I was able to pick up an Earth, Wind & Fire mega bundle. However, this particular tune was sampled on my very recent SMACK THE PITCH UP show. Unfortunately, I really can't provide any further details at the moment, if I can squeeze in 90 minutes of classic Hip Hop listening? Then hopefully, I can be more specific...

BOOPS (HERE TO GO) - SLY & ROBBIE

You'll have to forgive me for butchering this song with extreme prejudice. I needed to remove what I considered to be all the supperflous breakdown elements that totally ruined the listening experience.

COMPARED TO WHAT - DAVID HOLMES

I may as well include one more version of this whle I'm still going, if this does turn out to be my last show, then quite fitting that I've opted to go with yet another working of this popular protest song.

KILLER IN THE HOME - ADAM & THE ANTS

The music of Stuart Goddard was my very first introduction into the whole idea of listening to music for pleasure and enjoyment!

GAIT OF POWER - GENETIC DRUGS

I can't think of a reason, other than no reason, reason enough for inclusion then.

SHO' NUFF BOOGIE - THE MOMENTS & SYLVIA

Has been kicking around on the verge of being incorporated into a mix for a while now, glad to be putting it to good use at last.

RAZOR BLADE - LITTLE ROYAL

This reminded me of the Instrumental work provided by Bill Lee for his son on

Do The Right Thing ('89). But as far as I can tell, there is absolutely no obvious connection to anything, other than following on quite well from the track before?

THIGHS HIGH (GRIP YOUR HIPS & MOVE) - TOM BROWNE

I recognized these samples from a track by Coolio that I featured on my

recent FUNKADELIC EVOLUTION show.

CUT 'EM LOOSE BRUCE - HAPPY MONDAYS

From the follow up album to Pills N' Thrills, which I personally built up far too much before my first listen. After dipping in here and there, I can appreciate it slightly more today, but it will never come close to those first three killer albums.

YOU WILL PAY TOMORROW - SANANDA MAITREYA

I knew it! With that accent, Terence Trent D'Arby was never going to call himself Sananda Maitreya. Hold on a second, he has!!

TTD was always edging very close to being labelled as pretentious. Listen very carefully, and you'll hear a kazoo on this??

I don't fully understand the reasoning for the name change, but it does seem a tad affected.

*Terrence in his former guise appeared with exactly the same song on my very first two travel compilations, WIMBLEDON 91 90, and EVIL DEAD II.

I did consider using the very same track again here, exploiting my own compilation rules with the name change, but that would have been a bit.....pretentious.

1983...(A MERMAN I SHOULD BE) - THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE

Jimi showing us that he can be overblown as well.

*Jimi Hendrix was a staple of my early journey tapes, also featuring on my first two

(WIMBLEDON 91 90, and EVIL DEAD II), amongst many others...

SAN TROPEZ - PINK FLOYD

This should have really been incuded on PLANETMEECH GLOBAL 90.

*Along with Jimi Hendrix, these two featured on my first couple of compilations a total of 7 times between them, best that I don't mention The Doors.

I CAN'T GIVE EVERYTHING AWAY - DAVID BOWIE

I used a David Bowie song to open my very first journey tape, WIMBLEDON 91 90, so there really is nothing else I could have used on my final show.

This is the very last track on the very last David Bowie album!

Upon hearing the devastating news of his passing, I purposefully avoided listening to any Bowie material for a while.

I'm still yet to listen to this track, despite adding it to the project playlist a couple of years ago - when I'd initially decided to only complete 90 shows, then stop.

I fully trust that this song fits the bill, I should finally listen to it now.🤞

I think I must have gotten a little carried away, as I've now overshot by quite a few, and still have enough practically finished for another six months or so at least...

I did think about rounding everything off with When The Music's Over by The Doors, but that would have been far too silly, and a bit shit.
