BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
Kicking off with two records that I was listening to rather a lot when I was very enthusiastic about the releases coming from Tummy Touch Records. This was originally down to appear on my Tummy Touch mix.
Along with the obvious sample at the beginning relating to travel, and the general feel of something from a far off land, had to open this project. It has always made me think of Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon, probably because they are from the same year (2000), and I was listening to this album a lot around that time, and managed to catch that film at the cinema.
EAST MEETS WEST - LOS CHICHARRONS
I'm pretty sure that this came to my attention well before my enthusiasm for Los Chicharrons and other similar Tummy Touch artists (including Label Head above). No global mix would be complete without this act appearing at some stage, and this sets the template for he message I may or may not achieve.
Get ready for another definite appearance on MEECH'S TUMMY TOUCH 4, and another probable inclusion on MEECH'S LATIN 90...
I've just remembered that I included this on a tape made for a friends get together in Putney, I've no idea what happened to the cassette in the end?
BEHOLD THE DAY - THE FREEDOM SOUNDS
This has the Latin rhythm, but with a definite African feel, so perfect for this project.
Mr Maia contributed the stand out track on the City Of God Soundtrack, which was used on WHAT'S IN THE AIR FLORIDA?, and this contribution could be a contender for standout track here?
This doesn't appear on any of my other Sutrosonic material, and therefore, wasn't used on any of my CURRY MADNESS projects. I found this tucked away on a Worldwide Funk compilation, so very pleased to be including it here.
PURPLE RIVER - BEI BEI & SHAWN LEE
I used their fantastic cover of Billy Paul's East to close out BAD COPS, but this track fits in here rather well. Get ready for another track from that collaboration on.......BIG TROUBLE FROM LITTLE CHINA possibly?
One more I think from the Bathing Ape creator. This was a very early addition to my initial 'Global' playlist.
I've been listening to this quite a bit, ever since creating a playlist for a local charity summer event. It was to celebrate the London Olympics in 2012, and to reflect the 79 countries taking part.
Mrs. planetmeech thinks it sounds like an African version of Jeff Wayne - Now I can't stop hearing the similarities.
Capturing the sounds and flavours from Iceland and Syria in one track - bonus!
Capturing the sounds of a 1960's hippie inspired trip to The Sub Continent.
PAROLA (FEATURING ANNA CARAGNANO) - DONATO DOZZY
A very hypnotic mantra from the Italian Techno genre.
Not to be confused with any of the questionable releases related to the popular British Soap??
I remember buying this as part of a 'Global Funk' LP a very long time ago, glad to be putting it to good use all these years later. This also featured on the above mentioned mix.
THE KHALEEGI STOMP - TRANSGLOBAL UNDERGROUND
I've also delved in to a bit of the Transglobal Underground back catalogue to help out with a few John Peel inspired 90's projects, get ready...
GO EAST - GAETANO FABRI vs TARAF DE HAïDOUKS
As covered above.
Unfortunately, I cannot tell you much about this, or even how I came across it.
Although, the singer sounds as though he would be wearing white evening wear, and looking very pleased with himself???
The early playlist for this was huge, so I created seperate projects to make up other entries to a 'Global 90' series of future shows.
Get ready for Africa, Paris, Tokyo, Brazil etc.
Mo' Horizons will definitely be making an appearance on my forthcoming Latin project.
That track was also used on the above mentioned playlist. Although they have a definite South American sound, they are actually from Germany???
PSYCHASTéNIE - MICHEL COLOMBIER
I'm guessing this, like another Michel Colombier track I've used on a Curry Madness show, is part of a film score?
Recommended by a very good friend after an excepional curry, post football match. It turns out Mr Fawcet, that it was already included in the early playlist of possible tracks. I'd completely forgotten the title though, but have moved it up after our chat.
I think I remember this being used over the closing titles for the Robert Rodriguez film Desperado, so used to close out this mix in the same way...
And ticking off another country
(although, Proper Dos are probably from Los Angeles)?
