CONCEPT CREATED & MIXED - ΡLΔΠΞΤΜΞΞCΗ

ARTWORK - ΡLΔΠΞΤΜΞΞCΗ

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,

THEN PLEASE

THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE

IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR

THE LOVE OF MUSIC

AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST

BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS

G-FUNK INTRO - SNOOP DOGG

Not an artist that will ever be near the top of my most listened to category.

But Mr. Snoop Dogg cannot be separated from his association with Atomic Dog, which forms the basis for his trademark song.

This track however, not only samples from Not Just Knee Deep, but Aqua Boogie as well.

Not only featuring Lady Rage and Dr. Dre, the spoken section is by George Clinton himself!

TEAR THE ROOF OFF - GRANDMASTER FLASH

Hip Hop royalty sampling Funk royalty, that is all!

UNDER THE SUN - DILATED PEOPLES

I trust my ears far more than my basic internet search skills!

I can most definitely hear hints of Flashlight used here, but my regular source for identifying samples does not confirm this.

BIONIX - DE LA SOUL

These guys have to take the prize for bringing attention to the genius of George Clinton to a new era and beyond...

As a personal thank-you, I've included two separate entries.

SKEW IT ON THE BAR-B (FEAT. RAEKWON) - OUTKAST

In the early days of the iPod, and in my quest for cataloguing an ever growing library into an easy to search format. These, along with Redman, Method Man, Black Eyed Peas and Digital Underground helped form the start of my personal sub genre........

P-Funk (Hip Hop).

DROP THE BOMB - BRAND NUBIAN

Not technically a Parliament-Funkadelic sample, but to my mind, droppin' the bomb and tearing the roof off are the same thing. Surely?

RAP SCHOLAR (FEAT. REDMAN) - DAS EFX

Strangely, not featuring an outright Redman track in this mix despite having allocated numerous Redman albums to my then newly created category.

Even having a track called Cosmic Slop in my initial mix, but I didn't feel completely happy with the flow between tracks.

GRID (FEAT. CYPRESS HILL & GEORGE CLINTON) - PUBLIC ENEMY

Bang up to date PE, with a guest appearance by GC no less.

Being a confirmed Prince enthusiast, brought George Clinton's first release on Paisley Park to my attention, so I managed to include a key track from that on one of my original driving cassettes from 1995, ROCKY 5

That too, also featured.................Public Enemy.

JIMMI DIGGIN' CATS - DIGABLE PLANETS

Again, not containing a direct link to the P-Funk of George Clinton, but I have always lumped these in with similar artists that firmly do.

Including it here, allows for a toned down jazzier break in proceedings.

DROP - THE PHARCYDE

Back to it, with the kings of Alternative Hip Hop, watch out for

MEECH'S ALTERNATIVE HIP HOP 90.

I've been lucky enough to see these perform in Camden exactly 1 and half times.

My first attendance was at the Jazz Cafe with an old pal Phil Langham. I must have had a particularly hard day at work, or sampled some slightly old alcohol that was past best, because I managed to fall asleep (standing up!).

Thanks Phil, for looking after me.

Not a very good endorsement of their talents, but anybody who knows me personally will be able to confirm that I have a habit of falling asleep in strange places.

However, I did manage to catch them again many years later with

Mrs. ΡLΔΠΞΤΜΞΞCΗ, who was definitely not willing to put up with such nonsense.

I GET MY THANG IN ACTION - METHOD MAN

Making up for the anomaly of not including any out and out Method Man tracks on

THE MEECH-TANG CLAN.

TO EACH HIS OWN (FEAT. LARGE PROFESSOR & Q-TIP) - PETE ROCK

Any excuse to include the input of the front-man from A Tribe Called Quest.

ME MYSELF AND I (OBLOBOS MODE) - DE LA SOUL

Rather surprisingly, probably the most well known, and certainly the most era defining use of a P-Funk sample ever, is not represented on one of the major music streaming platforms?

I never like to select the obvious tunes for any of my mixes, so this slightly lesser known remix fits perfectly. However, it may have stripped out most of the trademark Not Just Knee Deep samples, almost defeating the object of it's inclusion.🤔

Beside the point, I'd already included it on THE 80's CALLING planetmeech.

FUNKADELIC RELIC - LL COOL J

Back of the net!

POSITIVITY - THE BLACK EYED PEAS

These became a bit mainstream and predictable, but the odd earlier track certainly owed a considerable debt to the Funk.

FEELIN' ALRIGHT - JUNGLE BROTHERS

Elevated even higher in my regard by the link up with Propellerheads, as evidenced on my EARTH CALLING PLANETMEECH mix, from pre internet times.

"P" IS STILL FREE - KRS-ONE

I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick here, and was probably influenced by the cartoon/sci-fi samples, which would not be out of place in any of the Afrofuturist concepts of George Clinton.

1-2-3-4 (SUMPIN' NEW) - COOLIO

Another artist that will never be near the top of my most played list.

But I thought I could hear an early Prince/Time sample. It turns out that the sample is not Prince related at all, but has given me an idea for a future show...

WHO AM I (WHAT'S MY NAME?) - SNOOP DOGG

I couldn't not include this honouring of Atomic Dog,

despite the artist lowering his professional standards in the attempt to sell takeaway food. I shouldn't really criticize, because I've tried to promote a couple of Indian restaurants myself, but I suppose I don't really have any professional standards to lower?

MISTADOBALINA - DEL THA FUNKY HOMOSAPIEN

Not only does this sample from Gloryhallastoopid, it also borrows from a very well known track by The Godfather Of Soul. On that note, I may as well tip you off to get ready for MEECH'S FUNKY PEOPLE.

ESCAPE THE FUNK - ILL BISCUITS

You may try, but you'll keep coming back.

SONS OF THE P - DIGITAL UNDERGROUND

I've always heavily associated the sound and style of Shock G with George Clinton.

It seems that I'm not alone in coming to this conclusion either!

Digital Underground are undoubtedly the first port of call when discussing P-Funk inspired Hip Hop. I could have selected litterally anything from any of their recorded output to include on this show, but this particular track just about sums up their USP.

Get ready for the dedicated planetmeech AND THE P-FUNK OF DIGITAL UNDERGROUND that is practically finished and all ready to go...
