BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
I never came across this during my record buying expeditions, but much later, when the Death Before Distemper compilations came into my sphere of listening pleasure.
I've just needed to quickly look up on Google Images to verify which of my previous shows contained tracks by Paddded Cell. Not advisable, unless you want to see numerous alarming images of psychiatric containment rooms.
Fortunately, after much digging I could see that THE PANIC DIMENSION and PLANETMEECH MMXX both included entries.
After checking my notes on each, I could see that I had completely neglected to mention just how significant this act is in my music appreciation history!!!
Not only do Padded Cell release material through DC Recordings, they are.........
Richard Sen (Bronx Dogs) & Neil Higgins (Dirty Beatniks).
Another recording entity of J Saul Kane, the man behind Depth Charge and the owner of DC Recordings. I really can't fathom how I would have known this before the Internet came along, but I most definitely did, and have many records as a result.
RESPOND IN SILENCE - THE OSCILLATION
Injecting a very small dose of Psychedlic Space Rock for good measure.
EMPEROR MACHINE - THE EMPEROR MACHINE
First appearing on my 90 MINUTE MINIMAL GROOVEDOWN show with Expanding In Reproduction. However, I couldn't recall it using the above search through Google Images method, probably miss spelling in the scramble to locate it???
Luckily, the title tended to stick in my short term memory, and is a bit less searched for than a padded cell it would seem.
I would often hear this record being played a great deal during my evening activities. Way back when it was still necessary for me to be active in the later part of the day, as opposed to watching Newsnight and having a cup of tea. I have a feeling that it also featured on a particular Richard Sen mixtape that was very rarely NOT playing in the car.
I'm pretty sure that this mix is the very first time I've featured J Saul Kane as Octagon Man, so three seperate entries can just about pass. However, I have featured Depth Charge on quite a few of my previous shows.
90 MINUTE BREAKsDOWN, P MINUS ONE, and PLANETMEECH III being the only definite mixes I can think of right away, having trouble being confronted with multiple images of WWII nautical explosive devices.
DIRTY CAPSULES - VINCENT MARKOWSKI
I had great fun extending out the loops of these two tracks to tighten up the transition, and to remove the meandering ambient section.
I can't hide just how much I like this collaboration.
Expect the odd tune to crop up here and there in the future...
Welcome Eastern themes that would not have been out of place on any of the CURRY MADNESS projects.
LIQUID MEMORYMAN - THE OSCILATION
More Psychedelic Space Rock with a slight Electronic leaning.
FACTORY FUNK - ALEXANDER'S DARK BAND
Craftily inserting this without too much fanfare.
One more recording alias of J Saul Kane that sounds unlike anything else. I have 3 different L.P.'s of this material that I hold very dearly! The kind of stripped down Mimimal Electronic Funk that I would spin frequently on my decks. Not everybody's cup of tea, but a specific sound that really takes me back to a cherished time and place.
BLOODY HELL - THE EMPEROR MACHINE
Bloody hell, it's The Emperor Machine again!
This 12" was always easy to locate, handily having a rather large pair of Blue Lips on the artwork.
More fun from the Death Before Distemper series of releases that come with an extremely high recommendation.
MY CHILDREN SLEEP NEXT TO THE ECHO CHAMBER - PADDED CELL
Last entry here for this mix, but I may well feature Richard Sen and Neil Higgins in this guise again, very soon.
Unfortunately, only one released album, but I'm sure I can unearth the odd musical treasure for the benefit of all mankind.
PRO MARS - THE EMPEROR MACHINE
And again, working towards the finish now on the lighter side of Electro...
Full on Octagon Man in full on Electro mode fazing out.
