IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,
THEN PLEASE
NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
WE TOOK PELHAM (SNIPPET) - DEADLY AVENGER
Used as the opener on the original vinyl mix that I used to mess around with in the early 00's. Unfortunately, in this digital age, it really sticks out as being of inferior sound quality to the rest of this selection. I may have mentioned previously that I elected not to use this on NO LEGS 90 because it was used as the walk out music for a football team - well, screw you Sheffield Utd. I'm sure I was there first!
Admittedly, I've only included this very short snippet so that I can add a link to the record sleeve. I've just read a comment on YouTube asking about the relevance of a white robot with the Page 3 lady - HAA!
This record can either work as the opening or following on from an opener. I have used it for both before, so I must have thought that at the time as well.
POISON CLAN '95 - DEPTH CHARGE
I've now realised after hearing the digital version, that I'd been playing it at the wrong pitch all along. It sounded completely wrong to me so have had to make the necessary adjustments.
CHARLIE DON'T SURF - DEADLY AVENGER
Ties in very well with the previous track.
MELLA (HERBALISER DRIVE FASTER MIX) - DJ FOOD
This record conjures up thoughts of a high speed pursuit from a Blaxploitation film set in 1970's New York, I'm sure that was the intention by the artists, well it's certainly my intention here. I also remember this being used in a DJ mix that we all listened to regularly before my memory issues (if you remember the mix, please let me know?).
THE OLD HIT SHED - SHOCKNAMAZE
Included here for obvious reasons and my enthusiasm for the Marble Bar record label at that time.
THEME FROM ADVERTISING THE INVISIBLE - ADVERTISING THE INVISIBLE
As above.
SURE SHOT - LONDON FUNK ALLSTARS
Included here for obvious reasons and my enthusiasm for the Ninja Tunes record label at that time.
Fits perfectly with the blaxploitation feel as mentioned above.
Definitely my favourite track from probably my favourite album of that year (2000) V...For Vengeance! Listening to it now as I write these notes and I must say that I'm very pleased to be including here.
HIP HOP BARRIO - UP, BUSTLE & OUT
Included here for obvious reasons and my enthusiasm for the Ninja Tunes record label at that time.
EVIL KNIEVEL - CEASEFIRE VS DEADLY AVENGER
What a great way to open the second half? Also helps with the case for using another record by Deadly Avenger.
DYNAMISM - DYNAMIC SYNCOPATION
Included here for obvious reasons and my enthusiasm for the Ninja Tunes record label at that time.
ON AND ON - FREE WHEELIN' FRANKLIN
Unfortunately, I couldn't track down a link to buy the digital version of this record, so you'll have to make do with it being part of this mix!
Arrrrrghhhh - what a fantastic record?
Included here for obvious reasons and my enthusiasm for the Major Force record label at that time.
Im afraid I couldn't magic up a link to the retail version of this track either, I hope this YouTube clip will suffice.
A BETTER WORLD parts 1&2 - THE WISEGUYS
Included here for obvious reasons and my enthusiasm for the Wall Of Sound record label at that time.
T PLAYS IT COOL - GORGEOUS GIRLS
Not the first record to feature from Major Force and definitely not the last!
(SUN IS MELLOW LIKE A) TANGERINE - ELI+HIROSHI
I will return in the near future with a dedicated Major Force mix, although this track is not technically on the same label, it pretty much may as well be.
