THEN PLEASE
THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
WHERE PATHWAYS MEET - SUN RA AND HIS ARKESTRA
As soon as I heard this, I started to picture scenes in my head that would slot together for a continuation project to follow MEECHSPLOITATION 90.
No question then that it would open the mix.
Much more for me to explore here, especially when Mr. Ra has a back catalogue that delivers just the brand of tripped out intergalactic space Jazz that I adore.
KEEP ON MOVIN' - CREATIVE SOURCE
An early draft included this act performing an even more funked up version of the Bill Withers track, Who Is He (And What Is He To You)?. I think both versions have appeared on equivalent Blaxploitation compilations over the years, so wanted to avoid any replication.
More than just the crossover track and trademark flat-top/codpiece ensemble.
Get ready.......for WORD UP! I have virtually finished a dedicated show, just need to give it a few tweeks here and there,
PEOPLE MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND - O'DONEL LEVY
Blackalicious make very good use of this on their Swan Lake track from the Melodica album, which came to my attention via Mo' Wax many years ago.
All things being well....I would like to feature Blackalicious on MEECH'S ALTERNATIVE HIP HOP 90, and/or WESTERN (HIP HOP) PHILOSOPHY.
THE HEAT IS ON (pts. 1&2) - THE ISLEY BROTHERS
Whilst running through a finished version of this mix, Mrs. planetmeech commented and enquired after the origin of this. It may have been my mispronunciation, but she thought I said 'The Eastleigh Brothers'.
That would make for an outstanding name for an Eastleigh based tribute act of The Isley Brothers.
If any of my old pals from Eastleigh would like to form a lean Funk outfit with soulful balladry, then I would be extremely keen to be their manager? You don't necessarily have to be brothers either, I think we could overlook that.
SON OF SAGITARIUS - EDDIE KENDRICKS
This nearly prompted me to put together a starsign themed mix. But luckily I came to my senses, as I don't really believe in any of that old rubbish.
LUV N' HAIGHT - SLY & THE FAMILY STONE
I featured Sly And The Family Stone on my very first journey tape that was put together in preparation for our WIMBLEDON weekend, all the way back in 1991.
Astonishing that I've not called upon theme since?
I'M GONNA LOVE YOU JUST A LITTLE MORE BABY - BARRY WHITE
Thanks Baz for providing us with a nine word title that is sure to present probems with my graphic format. I'm more than happy though to overlook the ridiculously long title because the track is fantastic!
A perfect change of pace you'd expect to find on something like this......out of sight.
Bringing the curtain down in preparation of the midway point.
Always keen to hear a bit of this artist, as evidenced by THE UBIQUITOUS ROY AYERS, and cropping up on quite a few previous shows...
BAD COPS, planetmeech AFRICA 90, MEECH'S COOLEST FILM MUSIC and
I'm pretty sure that this song title is a reference to JC.
I'm baffled by the popularity of this guy after the last 2000+ years. It's astonishing how the story of his life is still going strong after all this time. You don't really get to hear much these days about Isaac and his magic flying donkey from the same area of Nazereth?
HIHACHE - LAFAYETTE AFRO ROCK BAND
Is this the sound Miss Piggy makes when carrying out her domestic violence directed towards Kermit?.
Perfect for the footchase scene in this non existent film from the 70's.
THE PHANTOM (FEAT. BOBBY HUTCHERSON) - DUKE PEARSON
It seems Roy Ayers is not the only Vibraphone player in town.
BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU GOT - WILLIAM DEVAUGHN
You should recognise this from the very first Massive Attack album.
When I came across this version again fairly recently, I couldn't resist including it here.
Sounding very similar to Machine Gun, but I was never going to include that, so this is a worthy replacement.
FIRECRACKER/LOVE YOU - MASS PRODUCTION
Two for the price of one here
I stumbled upon Mass Production as I was putting together PLANETMEECH 4, and I couldn't believe that I'd never listened to them before.
I recognise this from a sample/homage used by Tutto Matto that I hope to feature on MEECH'S TUMMY TOUCH 4.
