 FUNK IN THE HOLE

Regular listeners to my digital product will be familiar with the musical output of the Jazz/Funk legend Roy Ayers. For anybody that's not yet up to speed with my continued appreciation, then please link to previous shows if you like what you hear.

WHATS IN THE AIR FLORIDA?

BABY YOU GIVE ME A FEELING

This always brings a huge smile to my face and puts me in a very good frame of mind.

CHANGE UP THE GROOVE

Unleash the vibraphone!

GOOD GOOD MUSIC

Whenever I listen to this I'm reminded of a Tutto Matto 12" that I would play repeatedly during my Tummy Touch phase.......Get Ready!

PRETTY BROWN SKIN

Still smiling.

The opening track to the album that unveiled the Ubiquity band.

THE FUZZ

Delivers exactly what you would expect, with a bit of added vibraphone.

HIGHER

Must be the spirit deep inside 'ya.

THE BOOGIE BACK

You may recognise that this has been sampled by the N.W.A. for their popular anti police record. I can't hear it myself, but I'll take the Internet's word for it, it's usually right. Another Go To source of information on the internet also states that at one time Roy Ayers was the most heavily sampled artist in Hip Hop, but I seriously doubt that he outstripps James Brown or George Clinton to this day.

RHYTHMS OF YOUR MIND

Possibly inspired by his time spent with Fela Kuti (see planetmeech AFRICA 90)

TONGUE POWER

Back to the traditional Funk sound of the 70's.

LIQUID LOVE (FEAT. SYLVIA COX)

Turning the romance levels up a notch now as we approach the end of the first half.

CHICAGO

Turning up the Disco levels now as we open the second 45.

I've been aware of this for quite a while, ever since owning the Jedi Knights version, so was very pleased to discover the original.

RUNNING AWAY

Possibly the most popular track to be included here, but works well with the current tilt towards elements of Disco.

GET ON UP GET ON DOWN

I would also apply the same thoughts here with Good Good Music above, this even shares very similar lyrics?

SANCTIFIED FEELING

These female backing vocals remind me of a Rolling Stones/Happy Mondays type performance.

HEY, UH, WHAT YOU SAY COME ON

Not convinced that the lyrics here have such a deep meaning?

MOVING, GROOVING

This, on the other hand, pure genius.

NO QUESTION

Believe it or not, this was the very first track to go into the initial playlist.

DADDY BUG

Originally intended as the closing track in the style of walk out music at the end of a show as the house lights are turned on.

2000 BLACK

Iincredible that this makes reference to a kind of future utopia that is 30 years ahead, now 20 years in the past.
