*NOTE ALIASES FOR KEITH THORNTON/KOOL KEITH.....
BIG WILLIE SMITH, DR. DOOOM, DR.OCTAGON, MR.NOGATO, NUMBER ONE PRODUCER, PLATINUM RICH, PROFESSOR PLANETORY, RHYTHM X, ROBBIE ANALOG, SINISTER 6000 AND TASHAN DORSETT.
Surprisingly not used to open the Octagonecologyst album, but I couldn't resist using this at the very beginning.
The Mo' Wax label used to be firmly towards the centre of my music buying radar whenever I would spend my days off collecting records in and around town.
I can't quite remember whether or not that I knew that Dr.Octagon was another alias of Kool Keith, but I'm sure that I was pleasantly surprised to hear his unmistakable New York rhyming style when I got home.
From the Black Elvis/Lost in Space album that has provided plenty of material for my space themed projects of the past, present and future.
From the Return Of Dr. Octagon, which I also own an complete album of instrumentals, but cannot locate a digital version anywhere...
This was one of the very first tracks to go into the mix.
I think I can also hear a mention of the Madness song, Our House, but its been a long day, so my ears may be deceiving me?
The Star Wars references have been coming since his days with the Ultramagnetics, now the Horrorcore and Space themes are starting to crop up as well. Many themes and styles are often repeated along with his fascination for Hardcore Porn.
Doin' good and lookin' fly.
This should have really made an appearance on MEECHSPLOITATION 90, I'm more than happy though to be using it here.
You may remember Kutmasta Kurt and Kool Keith making an appearance on WHAT'S IN THE AIR planetmeech? If you do, then your memory is far superior to mine, I've just spent far too long trawling through my old mixes to pin the track down.
Hopefully, I'll be able to use Google next time...
I'm not aware of any disagreements or fallout with Moe Love, but Keith advises the listener at the end of this track to not buy The Basement Tapes.
I suspect that the issue may be with the actual record label, as they do have the reputation of being villians.
COLD FREEZER (FEAT. BUMBY KNUCKLES)
Cold chillin' in the freezer with Bumpy.
Fitting in with the Horror-Core.
This was identified for use on my P MINUS ONE project, but didn't make the final cut obviously. I wrongly assumed that it could be associated to space (clutching at straws), it does contain a Star Wars reference though.
I have a feeling that part of the creative process relies on being able to pick words or phrases at random, and then craft full length songs based on whatever crops up.
The perfect example of this would be the Saks 5th Avenue album, quite a challenging listen, unless you like songs about a T-Mobile phone contract.
Black Elvis is still lost in space, but at least he now has a monkey green rag-top Seville.
FREAK IT (KUTMASTA KURT PRESENTS)
From the Kutmasta Kurt remix album for Sex Style, not to be confused with Kool Keith & Kutmasta Kurt.
BLACK SHERIFF (KOOL KEITH & KUTMASTA KURT)
Not to be confused with the above, more of a double act.
MAGNETIC JUNKADELIC (FEAT. CED GEE & D. EAZY)
Of course this was going in, partly down to the catchy title, but more importantly......Ced Gee!
Linking to the last track with an appearance by another (old school) Ultramagnetic MC.....Tim Dog!
Science Fiction/Horror, Keith has got it covered.
EAT IT (DR. OCTAGON FEAT. PRINCESS SUPERSTAR)
Princess Superstarrrrrrrr..........Quality!
OUT TONIGHT (FEAT NANCY DES ROSE)
Linking up the lady MC's.
Not to be confused with Dr. Dooom.
Before I started listening to this chap (MF Doom), I wrongly assumed that it was a further alias of Dr. Dooom, another of Kool Keith's pseudonyms.
I'm certainly glad that I made the assumption, because I could have completely overlooked his output entirely. I've just realised though, that he's collaborated with Czarface (WU-TANG) and Kool Keith himself, so the chances of 'contamination' of my music library would have been inevitable.
(this excerpt has been taken directly from my notes for MEECHADEMIC).
From the 'LOST MASTERS', sounds a bit like a shrewd bit of marketing?
More Sci-Fi inspired Beats.
The spine chilling theme to send those shivers tingling down your.......back bone.
This will get your melons twisting.
Perfect for closing out the show, if I didn't have a further three minutes of material at my disposal...
That should do it.
