CONCEPT CREATED & MIXED - planetmeech
ARTWORK - planetmeech
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,
THEN PLEASE
THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
I've faded this out at near enough the same point as at the beginning of that popular film about a boat trip dear to many peoples hearts.
I did originally have the rest of the song right at 'The End' of the mix, but decided against using the complete version here for run time constraints.
APOCALYPSE DREAMS - TAME IMPALA
Certain key words have been used whilst searching for exceptional music worthy of inclusion on this show. Which may, or may not turn out to be my last?
I don't know too much about these guys, but I do recall catching them briefly on the televised coverage of Glastonbury recently. This song, and the placing of it works perfectly for this project, and I am encouraged to carry out further exploration into this particular strain of 'guitar based psychedelic pop'...
THE BEGINNING OF THE END - NINE INCH NAILS
Trent Reznor played a significant part in the music appreciation field for HEAVY PC and myself around the early 90's. For some reason though, I never got beyond buying the Fixed and Broken e.p.'s, but my copy of The Downward Spiral never left the car. Get ready for a song from that album to appear on HURRICANE ANNIE, my journey tape from 1995.
I don't know too much about these guys either. This song works perfectly for the project, and I am encouraged to carry out further exploration into this particular strain of 'guitar heavy psychedelia from Japan'...
Maybe, even a specific show?
I've already earmarked the odd track for inclusion on 東京通話 planetmeech.
More themes of World destruction.
Listening to this always makes me think of one of the best Bond themes to one of the very best Bond films, so that can't be bad.
I would remind you to get ready for my forthcoming Bond project, but I now have another seven months to tweak it even further...
If I get to share it at all?
DOOMSDAY CLOCK - SMASHING PUMPKINS
I never listened to Smashing Pumpkins when they used to get mentioned in the same breath as Sonic Youth and Nirvana. I made up for that though by listening to more than my fair share of both those bands.
Both title and band name are very appropriate.
Never thought I'd be listening to Slayer, the current situation must be pretty serious!
Isolation could be the key to overcoming any threat to the human species.
Although, total isolation would also have an adverse effect on any population increase.
Not sure I should mention the concentration camp activities that inspired the name of the band that New Order evolved from?
THE APOCALYPSE SONG - ST. VINCENT
I've been trying to include something by St. Vincent in a show for a while now, and this slots in like a tightly fitting garment for the hand.
APOCALYPSE - CIGARETTES AFTER SEX
This makes me think of Hope Sandaval/Mazzy Sars (sorry, that was an actual typo, I think I need to have a bit of a lie down now).
I'm not a confirmed fan of the Zombie genre, but as you may know, I do like to broadcast just how much I love film - from any genre. I was very impressed by the technical achievements of this picture, as parts were filmed in a deserted London. I saw this in a cinema just around the corner from Piccadilly Circus, and was very relieved when I stepped outside afterwards to see that everything had returned to 'normal'.
THE END OF THE WORLD - DIZRAELI AND THE SMALL GODS
Another great piece of music that was identified using the keyword(s) search on my preferred music platform.
As above, and kick-starting a flurry of matching song titles.
The album that this is from offered up multiple options for my 'End Of World' concept, Doomsday being my preferred choice.
DOOMSDAY (FEAT. PEBBLES THE INVISIBLE GIRL) - MF DOOM
Not to be confused with Dr. Dooom.
Before I started listening to this chap, I wrongly assumed that it was a further alias of Dr. Dooom, another of Kool Keith's pseudonyms.
I'm certainly glad that I made the assumption, because I could have completely overlooked his output entirely. I've just realised though, that he's collaborated with Czarface (Wu-Tang) and Kool Keith himself, so the chances of 'contamination' of my music library would have been inevitable.
DOOMSDAY - KILLARMY & HOLLACAUST
Connected to the Wu-Tang, and tying this Hip Hop departure together very well.
Not connected to the Wu-Tang as far as I can tell.
Definitely not connected to the Wu-Tang!
At least I don't think so, but I've not really been keeping up with the musical endeavours of Britney Spears since this record came to my attention.
DOOMSDAY - ELVIS PERKINS IN DEARLAND
I squandered the opportunity to have all of the identical track titles line up, for good reason though.
"Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant shit to me".
EARTH DIED SCREAMING - TOM WAITS
When you hear that distinctive voice, you know the end must be near.
AFFECTED CITIES - CLIFF MARTINEZ
I absolutely love the Cliff Martinez scores to several Steven Soderbergh films. This is taken from the soundtrack album to Contagion ('11), and I've also used snippets from the same film to bridge between songs at the beginning of the show.
Watching Solaris ('02) and Traffic ('00) first alerted me to his very distinctive scores. The music track to Solaris was part of the reason that made me watch the entire film twice -
in one sitting!
This is from Hang The DJ, an episode of Black Mirror that I'm yet to see.
But I am aware of Sigor Rós, via a former colleague, who knew that I was interested in 'proper' music.
This ties in on many levels, Transmission relates to this show and the message I'm trying to convey. It could also refer to the transmission of a viral disease, and the current global catastrophe that will undoubtedly lead to at least one Death In Vegas.
I couldn't resist squeezing this in here, and the link to the final track works, and is very satisfying..
You probably think I've been leaning too heavily on The Beatles to date, I'm just scratching the surface...
Get ready for a dedicated show coming very soon, not featuring anything I've used so far.
Obviously, being a confirmed enthusiast of The World's most important film franchise, it's only natural that this young lady would come to my attention.
Well before the Bond announcement, I remember watching her performance at Glastonbury on TV last year, and her strange Blue Meanie outfit. I think the vocal harmonies at the start of this track sound very reminiscent of The White Album, so linking this with The Beatles works perfectly.
