TOKYOSAKA TRAIN - FUNKI PORCINI
Japanese Instrumental Hip Hop was my thing back in those crazy days spent thumbing through the racks of my preferred record shops.
*please check out my dedicated show MEECH'S MAJOR FORCE 4, for non-stop music that celebrates that incredible record label.
I think it must have been a trend amongst my favourite labels at the time, specifically Mo'Wax & Pussy Foot, who had very close tie ups with the Major Force network. Even Ninja Tune were getting in on the act (Funki Porcini).
get ready for dedicated Mo'Wax, Pussy Foot and Ninja Tune shows...
Not part of the above mentioned scene at all, but a very recent release by the Techno pioneers from Manchester.
ELECTRONIC CINEMA - BLACK TOKYO
More pioneering Techno, but from the birthplace of it all.
An easy decision to include it here due to the topics covered and themes touched upon.
DESIGN FOR DESTRUCTION - BIG PIMP JONES
I'm assuming this band create various concept Soundtrack albums.
This in the style of a traditional Kaiju-Mecha/Kaiju conflict. So, perfect for help in setting the scene for the Beats that follow.
FUNKY RESPONSE REMIX - OLIVE OIL
I came across this whilst putting this show together, sounding very much like something that I would have listened to quite a few years ago.
As above.
I think I need to start listening to this type of stuff again.
This album would have gone down extremely well with me a few years back.
As above.
Trademark turntable trickery from Ninja Tune, another of my preferred labels back from when the world was younger and the cares were free.
Trademark turntable trickery from Mo'Wax. I absolutely love DJ Krush, and he's my very first port of call, when I'm in the mood for some Instrumental Hip Hop of the Japanese variety.
To be honest I'm not even sure who she/he is?
This appears on a Major Force compilation that I've only recently had access to, I'm pretty sure it never featured in that famous 12" box set that was so dear to my heart - the initial spark for my continued appreciation.
MIDNIGHT PARADE - LOVE TAMBOURINES
This is from an album of killers and closers, so what better way to close the first 45 minutes?
MENSOLE OF SOUND - TAKUJI AKA GEETEK
I have a slight confession, these artists actually go by the name of Takuji a.k.a. Geetek & DJ Kawasaki. Well I would like to apologise now to Messrs Geetek and Kawasaki, but I suspect that those are not their birth names anyway?
I much prefer the look of the name in the title, and it's a bit too tricky at the moment to update the graphics at this late stage.
Masayuki Kudo and Toshio Nakanishi are part of the Major Force, Major Force West and Pussy Foot family that I followed avidly when that sort of thing was the norm for me.
I've always associated this with Pussyfoot Records, but the digital version that I have now, actually appears on a Tummy Touch compilation???
I really like it when two separate strands of my interest intersect in this way, imagine how happy I would be if Ferrari invest in Southampton Football Club!
MUGEN - IN THE MORNING - MAJOR FORCE WEST
Who remembers Footwork Mugen from watching Formula 1 in the 90's?
Well, the team with the striking red and white livery, is all I can think of every time I come across this record, Mugen is actually a word of Japanese origin, meaning dream, fantasy (夢幻), or infinite (無限).
ORBITING SATELLITES - KENSUKE SHIINA
Worth slotting this in for the sake of my nostalgia,
I still have fond memories of playing this a great deal when I would zero in on my collection of Pussy Foot records.
PARALLEL DISPLACEMENT - NHK yx KOYXEN
Rounding things out with a couple of premium grade Techno tracks.
X.SPE.8086 - SUBMERGE & HIROKO YAMAMURA
Get ready possibly for a dedicated Japanese Techno show???.
