BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
I initially had quite a bit of trouble tracking the digital version of this down.
Nothing available whatsoever on any of the obvious streaming or download platforms, nor anything on Youtube etc. The problem with sourcing this particular track was down to the fact that it was a very obscure b-side that I had first heard on The John Peel show in 1994. I then resorted to trawling through the archived shows from that year, but could not find it anywhere. I'd even considered substituting it for the A-side (The Saints Go Marching In), very appropriate on a personal level, but not matching up 100% with the original spirit of my journey tape, so just.... no!
I ended up just buying the cd from that popular music trading website (link above).
A bit of very urgent Industrial noise to move things on courtesy of the enlightened HEAVY PC.
GAMELAH (DUB 3) - BANCO DE GAIA
I think I may have attended a show by this act, possibly with the above mentioned Enlightened One?.
OOH LA LA (PEEL SESSION) - TH' FAITH HEALERS
I initially had the same kind of trouble that I've already mentioned above, but on this occasion did have success in my detailed search of the John Peel archive.😏
LITTLE MISS LOVER - THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE
No such problem with this, being from my first ever Jimi purchase.
I JUST WANT TO SEE HIS FACE - THE ROLLING STONES
I never actually owned the Exile On Main Street album, but I do remember who I obtained this from, and for some reason have never remained in touch. I think Rob Scott may have been a peripheral contact from a wider a group of friends, so no need to request confirmation, as it is highly unlikely he will ever read this, but many thanks anyway.
TRANSWORLD SIREN - RENEGADE SOUNDWAVE
This terrific album was brought to my attention by Dan Ashton, who I'm still hoping to contact and to float some proposals in his direction.....
RUN COME RALLY - YABBY YOU & THE PROPHETS
This is quite a tricky one to explain, so I just need to take a pause.....
Right, this was marked up as Prophecy Of Dub by King Tubby, which I did just about manage to track down on You Tube, and was very happy too. However, the music identification app suggested it as what's contained in the link above.
Which I am more than happy with.
Not tricky at all then really.
CLOSER - (THE) NINE INCH NAILS
All credit to the Af for introducing me to the incredible talents of Trent Reznor.
The David Fincher connection probably also helped.
CARNIVAL OF SOULS - COMBUSTIBLE EDISON
This was one of my first purchases when I decided to convert all my original journey tapes to the digital format.
This marks another departure in my listening habits at the time.
The original tune comes in at just under eleven minutes, and my journey tape contained some pretty brutal chops in order to trim the run time.
Fortunately, I've managed to achieve slightly more finesse to the edit in 2020.
LORD LUCAN IS MISSING - THE DODGEMS
This was originally recorded from the radio, and was a typical example of John Peel playing something (very) slightly unusual.
I can't actually recall why I elected to use a James Brown track here, I suppose you never really need a specific reason?
I was probably just pleased not to rely too heavily on what I'd managed to record from the radio.
MR EGO TRIP - CREDIT TO THE NATION
Another track that only ever existed as a rather low quality recording from the broadcast content. Fortunately, pretty easy to track down.
YOU SHOULD BE DANCING - BEE GEES
What you doing on your back?
Slotting in the obligatory Bee Gees track, that proved to be very popular at the time.
BALANCED RELEASE (CIRCLE LINE VERSION) - ANIMATION
This was also one of my first purchases when I decided to make a start on the digital process.
I THINK I JUST WANT TO GO AWAY - TINY LIGHTS
This was the final piece of the jigsaw, and proved to be the most difficult to track down. The yelp that I let out when I had successfully procured this could have summoned very deep dwelling nocturnal, aquatic species from other dimensions.
Not bad...
ALAN'S PSYCHEDELIC BREAKFAST (SUNNY SIDE UP) - PINK FLOYD
I really don't remember the incidental breakfast sound of Alan chomping his way through his morning meal being quite this clear.
NEPTUNE THE MYSTIC - LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
I don't think I was too worried about the possible jarring effect of having Classical music follow on from Classic Rock, hopefully by sticking it right at the end will avoid any potential disorientation.
