LONG LONG JOURNEY - ETTA JONES
Perfect for opening up a theoretical journey compilation.
Could be referencing space travel, which does tend to be long, unless you are Jeff Bezos or Richard Branson. Cheapskates!

The Bananarama version did cross my mind for a split second.

GROOVE IS IN THE HEART - BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE
Other more appropriately titled tracks by this band do exist. However, one sounds a bit a bit like Spinal Tap during their Hippie phase, and another is nearly 12 minutes long. This came out on top, despite only having a very slight connection to the overall concept.

Sadly, the satellite in this instance is probably somewhere like Croydon or Kingston, but quite likely to be Bromley in the case of this band.

This could sound a bit like The Orb, and we all know how DR. Alex feels about space.

Always very keen to add anything by Talking Heads, just a shame that I never got to include them on any of my early travel cassettes.

(I'M NOT YOUR) STEPPIN' STONE - THE MONKEES
I remember this being played quite a bit during my festival/gig/club going activity, and I can even remember the version by The Farm.

NEW YORK MINING DISASTER - BEE GEES
I love the Bee Gees music from the 60's, and the odd Disco record they put out.

Yes, my first double hit! Maybe not?
This should have really followed Nathan Jones for the Bananarama connection.

THE BALLAD OF TOM JONES (WITH CERYS MATHEWS) - SPACE
I think I remember this being played quite a bit during that period when we all used to meet up religiously at the weekend. I've just checked the release date of 1997, and that adds up. I'm not sure if this is meant as a comedy record?

I don't think I can relate this to space, but I'll give myself 2 points for both the Jones connections.

Could this have been a prediction of the Mars Rover?

SHOCK HORROR - SHY LUV & JONES
I'm not sure this one's for me, but the musical arrangement does sound a little like the very early 80's Prince sound. The sultry vocal talent of Jones did provide a couple of Space themed tracks for me to consider, but the pacing definitely would not have worked, so decided to go with this instead. I don't know anything about Shy Luv, but I can see that these young chaps seem to favour very large annoraks and are attracted to giant ladies.

WALKING IN THE AIR - ALED JONES
Another Karaoke favourite of mine.

2000 LIGHT YEARS FROM HOME - JIMMY CREASY
I did originally have the Rolling Stones version opening up the second half, despite already using it on the missing CHRISTMAS EVE MEECH.
As that has now been digitally recreated, I found myself going through countless very low end cover versions looking for a suitable replacement.
I detest music that has been clearly recorded and issued just for the sake of it, music with no integrity just sucks in my opinion.
This however, is very far from that description, and has come out on top.
I know this has been credited to the songwriting partnership of Jagger & Richards, but without the creative enigma and early enthusiasm of Brian Jones, the world may never have been exposed to the delights of The Rolling Stones.

WALKING IN SPACE - QUINCY JONES
Any excuse to out do Aled Jones, with or without Mr Frosty.

The most important Jones of the lot!
Far too obvious to have included Space Oddity, this does work though,
in my head at least.

Oh bother! I've just thought of Loving The Alien.
Quite far away from the smooth Jazz balad that shares the same title.

DRIVE ME CRAZY (DISCO LADY) - GLORIA JONES
This was actually written by Marc Bolan, so gets a bonus point for some reason?

This influential rapper was born Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones, I must admit that I didn't know that until I looked it up.

BABY C'MON - OL' DIRTY BASTARD
However, I did know that this deceased rapper, and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan was called Russell Jones.

The lady that provides the sample at the very beginning of the very first track by The Orb that I would listen to.

OVERTURE (CARMEN JONES OST) - ORIGINAL CAST
Ironically, this overture gets used on the podium at the very end of each Formula 1 race, and I'm lucky enough to hear this roughly every two weeks throughout the course of the season.
This however, is taken from the Soundtrack of Carmen Jones ('54), the all black version of Bizet's opera.
