CONCEPT CREATED & MIXED - planetmeech

ARTWORK - planetmeech

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,

THEN PLEASE

THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE

IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR

THE LOVE OF MUSIC

AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST

BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS

 A TO G - BLACKALICIOUS

Not really the above track, just the opening first few seconds with a little added planetmeech desktop trickery. I've included the link though to highlight the struggle I've had with locating this intro. It had the tendency of sticking in my mind without me knowing just where it came from, I knew it was from one of my Blackalicious records, but the digital file I had on my hard-drive didn't quite match up to the vinyl for some reason??

Part of the Alphabet Aerobics release that has come to the attention of even Harry Potter...(link below).

DANIEL RADCLIFFE ALPHABET AEROBICS WORKOUT

Not even this helped me locate it, just adding further to my confusion.

You'll notice that I've removed all traces of the famous rap by Gift Of Gab, who I was lucky enough to see live in Camden a few years before the world started to fall apart.

The energy needed for this extreme vocal exercise must have taken its toll because he performed the whole show sitting down!

GOTTA GROOVE - DYNAMO PRODUCTIONS

This came via my continued fascination with the Illicit record label that also released the Battlecreek e.p.'s, which in turn led me to make many further purchases. The fruits of these were put to good use on my BEATs/BREAKsDOWN shows.

STRUT HEAR - KID KOALA

A very short piece from a record label that had a very big influence on me at the very end of the 90's and into the next decade. It goes without saying that plans are afoot for MEECH'S NINJA CUTS 4 to follow very shortly...

PANIC IN FUNKYTOWN - BLOCKHEAD

Also from Ninja Tune, but not from the same time period at all. Unfortunately, this artist managed to completely pass me by when I needed to put a temporary stop to buying music. Had this not have been the case, then I am sure that I would have bought many, many records by Blockhead. The sleeves very much appeal to me and would have undoubtedly sparked my interest being in the Ninja Tune section.

GADGET FUNK - THE HERBALISER

Thankfully, The Herbaliser's records didn't manage to escape my attention and still occupy space in my living room.

THE FLAV - PAULO

This was never going to escape my attention either.

CUTTING PROGRESS - GREEDY FINGERS

I remember buying this solely on the strength of it being on J Saul Kane's DC Recordings label, and not quite being ready for it at the time as I was expecting more of a Depth Charge sound. I'm just  reacquainting myself with it now and loving it!

GOOD LIFE - MR. CHOP

This is from an album titled For Pete's Sake, a tribute to Pete Rock (next track).

Mr. Chop/Littler has worked extensively with MF Doom who features further down...

DILLA BOUNCE (R.I.P.) - PETE ROCK

This is obviously a tribute to J Dilla who also features further down...

STREETS WON'T LET ME CHILL - ODDISEE

Drafted in at a fairly late stage to replace an Instrumental version of an EPMD track.

The original inclusion tended to drag a little without the MC input of Erick & Parish.

RADIO ATTACK - PREFUSE 73

Last making a showing on my 62,000 MPH project, appearing here without the input of Mos Def or Diverse, obviously?

I was tempted to use the Instrumental version of that track, but that would have been a bit silly considering the sheer magnitude of music I have at my disposal now.

ANDY Vs DIZZY (INSTRUMENTAL) - UGLY DUCKLING

I'm surprised that this is the very first appearance by Ugly Duckling on any of my shows. Expect more to come on either a dedicated Hip-Hop project or a mixed genre effort... I caught these in Camden a few years ago as well.

WHO NEEDS A MIC? - TIME MACHINE

From a complete album of Instrumentals, does just what it says on the...

BECAUSE I GOT IT LIKE THAT (INSTRUMENTAL) - JUNGLE BROTHERS

As above.

COOLIN' OUT - LONDON FUNK ALLSTARS

Another Ninja Tune staple that I've already featured in my earlier shows, expect more to follow.

BLINDSIDED (INSTRUMENTAL) - PETE ROCK

I can justify including two tracks by Pete Rock here because the above is clearly in the style of Dilla.

MEMORY LOSS - DELTRON 3030 & DEL THA FUNKEE HOMOSAPIEN

Yes!

Much more to be explore here and to be utilised on future projects, if I can only overcome my memory issues. One tactic I use to cope with this, is to make a start immediately on anything that comes to mind there and then.

This has produced many different and varied playlists, at least I have enough ideas now to last until the universe runs out of electricity.

88 MINDSTATE (INSTRUMENTAL) - APATHY & CELPH TITLED

Thanks to that unfathomable memory of mine, I can't quite locate a killer track by Apathy that I noted for inclusion quite a few years ago???

Just having a look through his back catalogue now, and it may take a while to locate.

DECK DEMONS INTERLUDE - AUDIBLE MAINFRAME

Just when you need an interlude....this comes along, and obviously sparking my interest by using samples of dialogue from The Warriors ('79).

THINE PLANETARIUM - RJD2

Shifting tone slightly, and paving the way for the next run of tracks with a slight hint of what may be in store courtesy of Kool Keith in the guise of Dr Octagon/Dr Dooom.

A couple of RJD2's albums were passed to me by an ex colleague DAVID TURNER,

who was also a keen listener of DJ Format, I don't think he really believed me though when I told him that Matt Ford was one of our mates!

R.I.P. DR. OCTAGON - DR. DOOOM

Ha! Kool Keith making his customary appearance on planetmeech radio.

THE HANDS OF DOOM - CZARFACE & MF DOOM

Ha! MF Doom making another appearance on planetmeech radio.

METRORAIL THRU SPACE - CUT CHEMIST

Ha! I've already used a slightly different variation of this on P MINUS ONE.

(completely avoiding the point I was trying to make about the availability of music).

JUST EXPRESSIN' - FLOW DYNAMICS

I've only used the first few minutes of this, having to lose the vocal section due to the show being labelled as No Rap. If you want to hear the complete version, then follow the link above...

SUSPENSION - L'ORANGE

I should have really used  this to follow on from either Kool Keith or MF Doom, but does actually work better placing it here.

THE DIFF'RENCE - J DILLA

Almost anything by J Dilla can be used to link up this specific brand of Hip-Hop.

A PHASE SHIFTER I'M GOING THROUGH - LORD NEWBORN & THE MAGIC SKULLS

It really is a mystery how this ended up in my initial holding playlist??????

Therefore, the only logical place for it is at the end.
