 ELECTRIC LAZYLAND

This was always used by me to open any of my compilations this side of the millennium, so only natural to begin a dedicated 9 Lazy 9 show with it.

TURN ME LOOSE

From Paradise Blown, an album that I was directed to by listening to numerous John Peel shows back when that was still a thing to do.

TRAIN (MARDEN HILL MIX)

I'm pretty sure that 9 Lazy 9 were the first act that I was aware of from the Ninja Tune label because of the above, and this lead me to buying a couple of Ninja Tune compilations. Which in turn developed into a full blown collecting mission of any Ninja Tune 12" by any artist!

CHECKIN ON YOU

These two first albums were probably the smoothest stuff I was listening to at this stage.

TAKE NINE

As above, I still have the 12" of this too.

SMOKE IT SOMETIME

From a specific mid 90's compilation of 9 Lazy 9 tracks, which I'm not sure why it even existed? Surely it's much better to own two separate albums, as that was all that was available at the time. I've just noticed that it was only available on the cd format.

ALL ABOARD

Premium 9 Lazy 9 output here.

NO. 2

This link may, or may not take you to the correct album. I definitely always associate it with Electric Lazyland though.

HOTWIRE

I'd run out of space for vinyl at this point (2010), and had stopped buying music in quite the same way. Unfortunately, this release completely passed me by.

SMOKE RINGS

From the same album as above, and if I only give it half as much attention as their earlier releases, then I probably wouldn't have time to listen to anything else right now. This track though is well worth all the attention it is getting at the moment, I was even tempted to use it again at the very end, but that would have been a bit daft.

TUMBLEWEED

I only ever had this album (Sweet Jones) on an unmarked white label pre release, and therefore, didn't have a clue what any of the tracks were called.

Needless to say, that this was long before the internet was as accessible as it is today.

The very first track on the A side did grab me in a very big way though, and I ended up featuring it on several different projects over the years, most recently

planetmeech LATIN 90.

TRY THIS RHYTHM

Incredible! This was released independently of the Ninja Tune label very recently (2020). Obviously, I had no idea that it was coming out and was taken completely by surprise when putting this project together.

B HIP & SHOP

This makes me very happy to be pulling all these favourites together to make up this continuous listen, a real shame that I'm not driving any more.

SPECIAL 8

One for the later lounge experience, it's tragic that the hospitality industry is in such turmoil at the moment. Should we ever get back to the way things used to tick over, then I would be more than happy to listen to this sort of thing in a late night bar whilst drinking my Manhattan.

CRUISER

I'm still holding on to that thought.

THE HERB

Another couple from the their first album, Paradise Blown. Most of these were played by John Peel around 1994 and found their way on to my various travel tapes at the time.

One track even appeared on my WHAT'S IN THE AIR TENNESSEE? show fairly recently. This probably goes to show that they have had much more of an influence on my musical tastes than I had realised?

BLACK JESUS

As above.

I particularly appreciate this, as it sounds like it may have a Jimi Hendrix spoken sample in it?

NANO NERA

I needed to mix these two with a little more effort, so ended up adding a few extra loops of both tracks to pull this off.

RAINY SATURDAY

One more track that featured on the above mentioned compilation album...

So there was a reason for me having it in my library.

COSA

Another couple from the Sweet Jones album that I've under appreciated all these years, all because I couldn't be bothered to investigate the correct track listing.

THE LAST OF THE WEST

My laziness undoubtedly prevented me from using this on WHAT'S IN THE AIR TENNESSEE? Probably a good thing looking back, as I'm quite pleased to be signing off with it here.

*Expect at least one more appearance on my MEECH'S NINJA CUTS 4 to follow...
