IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,
THEN PLEASE
THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
Not specifically related to the Moon, not in this century, yet?
This record does though, make me think of futuristic travel. Although Moon landings are not technically futuristic. Sadly, they have been relegated to history.
Linking in with the futuristic 80's Disco feel of the opener.
When these Disco numbers were originally released, the inhabitants of Earth believed in a future existence away from the home planet.
It's telling that you don't really hear mention of space, and space travel in quite the same way in the music industry of today. I think we've all realised that we are here until the end now!
As above.
COSMIC FUNK - MAD DOG FIRE DEPARTMENT
Moving from Funky Disco to Disco Funk.
During the process of putting this mix together, I've unearthed the equivalent to Kate Bush from the Indian Sub Continent.
I stumbled upon this on YouTube and quickly tracked it down for inclusion.
In fact! it was the very first record that I earmarked for this project. Tying in rather well with the Drum & Bass that follows. I mentioned in the notes for
OFF WORLD FUNK how I appreciated the similarities in structure and craft of 'proper' Jazz, and Drum & Bass. Well, you can really hear it here.
As covered above.
Now we're hitting it with the Rider Of Grooves.
Down shifting now, to help the transition into the Funk.
A FUNKYSPACE REINCARNATION - MARVIN GAYE
This track featured on P MINUS ONE until a very late stage.
So, I am over the MOON to be including it now.
For anyone remotely interested in the work of George Clinton, you will know that there is no shortage of futuristic space related music. I wanted to pick something that doesn't form part of the usual live repertoire, and I'm fairly sure that I've not heard this performed before??
CELESTIAL TERRESTIAL COMMUTERS - MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA
For anyone remotely interested in Jazz Fusion or my shows, I would like to mention that Jan Hammer, (Miami Vice) and Jean-Luc Ponty (below) have both been members of this band at some stage.
Not terribly relatable to the subject matter, but I had to include this primarily because of the name of the band.
It's also very good to hear David Byrne and Gift Of Gab featuring in the vocal duties.
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE - THE BEATLES
Obviously?
COSMIC MESSENGER - JEAN-LUC PONTY
Squeezing in a bit more Jazz Fusion.
HOSTILE PLANET ESCAPE SEQUENCE - SKYLAB
This could have featured on MEECH'S MAJOR FORCE 4, but I'm glad to be using it here to close things out.
