 UNDER WRAPS - BARRY ADAMSON

From his début Moss Side Story, billed as a Soundtrack album to a non-existent film.

Music to my ears then, and this track is a belter!

Whilst researching for this write up, I came across comparisons made to the Lynch/Badalamenti Soundtack work. I'm pleased to see that I must have thought the same, and included a direct tie in further down as well as other nods to cinematic music throughout.

SLOMO - SURREAL MADRID

Very clever sampling work that utilizes Fat Mama by Herbie Hancock that you may remember from PLANETMEECH 4. Now is as good time as any to tell you to get ready for...................MEECH'S HERBIE HANCOCK 90.

Around the time of the '98 World Cup, I came across a glut of football related releases. This was from an album of Beats inspired by 'The Beautiful Game' on Dust2Dust Records, a label that was fairly high on my shopping list at this time anyway.

GOOOAAALLL!!!!!!

THE BOX - ORBITAL

I bought this quite a few years previous to putting this project together, but was encouraged to incorporate it here owing to the overall cinematic theme.

IF THEY MOVE KILL 'EM - PRIMAL SCREAM

Another concept album, this time inspired by an actual film (Vanishing Point '71).

However, this track's key sample is from The Wild Bunch ('69)?

ASBESTOS LEAD ASBESTOS - MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO

Long before the Internet and YouTube enabled you to instantly call up whatever music video you desired at the command of a click, I compiled an equivalent group of favourites on V.H.S. This track was one of the stand outs from that collection.

My cassette version of this must have been running at a slightly different speed.

Therefore, upon eventually picking up the record and playing it at the correct speed, I just didn't have the same connection to it, so had to adjust the pitch up to match my memory.

If you're familiar with this song, you'll notice that I've made the necessary changes, and can now definitely say that it will be featuring again in any Best Of show that may crop up in the future.

Catch the video here...............

ASBESTOS LEAD ASBESTOS - MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO, to see what I'm talking about.

COMPARED TO WHAT - JADELL

This is the actual track that has led me to include multiple different versions all throughout my previous mixes. Listening to it now makes me start to question what all the fuss was about? But it does tie in very well with the next track and anything by Jadell at the time was picked up by me and very well received.

HISTORY REPEATING (FEAT. MISS SHIRLEY BASSEY) - PROPELLERHEADS

Not actually featured in or directly related to any of the Bond films, but undoubtedly owes a heavy debt to the influence of the popular film franchise.

RADIO 7 - DAVID HOLMES

Also not featured in or directly related to any official Bond film, but as mentioned on PLANETMEECH 2000 pt.1quite a few of the artists I was listening to around this period were either actively employed by this money making machine, or cannily jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm also working on a parallel project to coincide with the eventual release of NO TIME TO DIE ('??), so quite glad to have already included this here, being far too similar to much of my other planned music on that show.

MOVING IN TIME - ANGELO BADALEMENTI

No surprise that I'm including anything by the Badalementi/Lynch collaboration that proved so popular with me throughout the previous decade.

David Lynch is without doubt my absolute favourite director of films, and Fire Walk With Me ('92), is in my top 3 of all his cinematic releases.

FLY TO SANGEETHA - ZOOT WOMAN

Wall Of Sound releases were a priority to me around twenty years ago, as evidenced by WALL OF MEECH 4. This track, having traditional Indian influences was an almost automatic choice.

PONDEROSA - TRICKY

Matching up the Eastern instrumentation with the previous recording.

The Martina Topley Bird vocal always stood out whenever listening to this grounbreaking album.

WHAT KIND OF POWER WE GOT? - PUBLIC ENEMY

I think I remember Maryanne Hobbs playing this to open her show as I set off on my drive back to London after spending another weekend back in my hometown of Eastleigh. Needless to say, that this was procurred on my very next trip into town.

AND THE BEAT GOES ON - ALL SEEING EYE

Something that used to get aired in the bars and clubs that I was frequenting in the very late nineties.

GERSHWIN - ARLING AND CAMERON

Taken from a 'Donuts' compilation that I had on Bolshi Records.

I MISS YOU - BJöRK

Another music video that featured on my V.H.S. compilation (mentioned above).

I would have liked to convert this collection into a show, but I can only solidly remember these two tracks and another by Ghostface Killah.

My video recorder has long since been consigned to the 'electronic graveyard', so these three tracks, along with............I don't know, maybe A-Ha, Queen and Peter Gabriel wouldn't make for a very good show at all?

(I need to point out that none of those era defining videos featured anyway).

TV DINNER FOR 1 - TRINITY HI-FI

This was given to me during my prolonged hospital visit. Not sure who gave it to me, but I'm glad that it came to me in my hour of need.

Not entirely sure the other residents of the rehab unit appreciated it quite as much as I did.

BLACK MILK - MASSIVE ATTACK

I vaguely 'remember' listening to this dreamy number in the early hours after returning home from some serious nightclub activity.

THURSDAY'S CHILD - DAVID BOWIE

This was from one of the later albums, The Hours. Which strangely enough, was my very first purchase of Bowie, after being a keen listener over the previous however many years? I think this is the reason I've not attempted a dedicated Bowie mix.

My old pal Phil Langham introduced me to the Bowie back catalogue several years prior to this anyway, so it would be fitting for him to take the reigns on any future Bowie project.

RAIN SONG - LED ZEPPELIN

Fitting the current wind down template.

Mr. Langham also introduced me to the Zeppelin back catalogue as well.

Incidently, now would be a very good time to direct you to his online record store.

MISS SARAJEVO - PASSENGERS

I'm sure that at the time of putting this together, I was extremely pleased with myself for bringing together such a varied roster of talent that included not only Shirley Bassey (above), but also the legendary Luciano Pavarotti himself!

Err.....and Bono?
