IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,
THEN PLEASE
THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
WE'RE ALL DOOMED - TOXIC NARCOTIC
Not really very reminiscent of everything else to follow, in terms of a short sharp, abrasive shock to the system. But the 'song' title sums up the current mood on the run up to the U.S. election.
The Native American word, meaning life out of balance.
I was drawn to this because of my love of the stunning series of films by Ron Fricke and Godfrey Roggio. They really are worth watching, if you like something a little different, but at the same time very familiar.
Now we're getting up to speed with the Dirty Rotten Imbeciles.
Hardcore Punk royalty making an appearance here.
Neither North American, or even from the U.K. as the title would suggest. I wasn't so sure of the origins of this, so had to execute a very basic search of the web.
I suspected that this referred to the UK as a destination, or a way of life. I hold a British passport, and have not been a resident of any other country apart from England, but cannot recall a single time I have ever referred to where I live as the UK.
*My hunch paid off! Bollocks are in fact from Malaysia. I should have known really, the artwork attached to the link portrays a group of South East Asian gentlemen decked out in full Punk regalia.
ANOTHER DAY GOES BY - THE VIRUS
This was never going to escape my interest owing to current events.
SUCCESS AND FAILURE - SACCHARINE TRUST
Less shouty, and slightly more musical than you would expect.
And we're back.
WHAT IF THERE'S A WAR IN AMERICA? - 7SECONDS
Recorded in the early 80's, and could strangely be a prediction of what is going to happen next week?
DEAD END YOUTH - CAREER SOLDIERS
Sailing very close to parody with this one.
DEAD COPS/AMERICA'S SO STRAIGHT - M.D.C.
Millions Of Dead Cops giving us two for the price of one......happy days.
NEVER BEEN DISEASED - THE STRAP-ONZ
Glad to hear that the later entries in the genre are just as radio unfriendly.
BLIND JUSTICE - AGNOSTIC FRONT
Back to the 80's
I first heard a version of this song on the radio and at festivals during the early 90's. It turns out that it was originally recorded by that famously manufactured band, The Monkees. The version that I first heard was by The Farm, the low carb equivalent of the Happy Mondays.
Firmly from the NY Hardcore Punk scene, but not afraid to experiment with the traditional metal sound.
One of the longer entries from an album that takes less time to listen to than drinking a can of superior strength lager.
Paving the way in their use of fusing Hardcore with Metal.
Obviously inspired by the Cro-Mags.
As above.
Formerly known as Token Entry Of Queens, that's a pass for inclusion.
YOUTH OF TODAY - YOUTH OF TODAY
Also a pass.
I never knew that this was a cover version performed by my very favourite guitar based band of all time. I featured that recording on my PLANETMEECH II project, the reason I couldn't use it on my dedicated SONIC YOUTH show.
I've just stumbled upon another subculture of Hardcore Punk.
Straight/Edge, which doesn't sound like much fun at all, rejects many of the vices that we take for granted when trying to come to terms with this shitty planet.
DISNEYLAND GET OUT OF PUNK - TOM & BOOT BOYS
More Hardcore from South East Asia. This one is extra special!
BISCUIT POWER - GORILLA BISCUITS
Mmmmm, biscuits.
This one is quite deceptive, I challenge you to keep time with the chorus.
MOTIVATION - BETTER THAN A THOUSAND
More Straight Edge ideology.
More of a spiritual Eastern philosophy on this one, should have guessed judging by the artwork.
SHEER TERROR - GOVERNMENT ISSUE
Back to traditional 80's Hardcore from D.C.
STATE VIOLENCE/STATE CONTROL - DISCHARGE
This relates perfectly to the civil unrest that could tear the United States apart at the moment...
RAAAAAAAAAAAA.
LOSERS CLUB - LOWER CLASS BRATS
Kicking off a song with a colourful metaphor...
HEROIN OR SUICIDE - LEFTöVER CRACK
Two classic recurring Punk themes.
WHEN THE WALLS COME CRASHING DOWN - A GLOBAL THREAT
I'm quite pleased with myself for including a track that only lasts for 26 seconds!
Unfortunately, its taking longer than that for me to type this out and add the link?
Hopefully, you'll see a thread running through these last few tracks connecting to convey a story of sorts...
One more from Virus, but the earlier entry is attributable to THE Virus. This could be a sign of a dispute within the band over who has the rights to perform and use the original band name. I suppose it could be similar to the issues faced by Bucks Fizz/The fizz. Let's hope that The The don't suffer the same fate.
I apologise for the Dad Joke, but with 43 tracks, I'm lucky I haven't given up yet.
This drops in logically with the current subject matter.
And again.
Clutching at straws here, but it sort of works.
I'm thinking of the four Punks I pass in the same spot every time I walk into Camden. If you find yourself there any time in the future, be sure to say hello to Falcon, Skunk, Aids & Gary.
Not really tying in to my apocalyptic theme, but these guys sound really pissed off about something.
Harking back to halcyon times.
I AM NOT YOUR (NOTHING) - ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN
Leading us to the final track and tying in quite well.
Phew! I'm glad I've eventually finished these notes.
