THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE

IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR

THE LOVE OF MUSIC

AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST

BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS

AMERICA - PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION

My very first inclination was to include the full length extended 12" cut of this, that would have been the easier option. Fortunately, the rest came together quite well. But you must check out the full 21+ minute version to hear Prince and his band at the top of their game.

I had wanted to call this show TERMINATE WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE, but I didn't want to risk spending the rest of my days in Gauntanamo Bay.

I may still end up there, or worse, so have considered changing my name to Steve Driscoll, and convert to living off-grid.

SUPERSOUND - THE JIMMY CASTOR BUNCH

I'm struggling to think of a tie in to this theme, but it works at pulling these current tunes together quite well.

TALKIN' LOUD & SAYIN' NOTHING - JAMES BROWN

No struggle at all to connect this to that imbecile trying to run things on the other side of the Atlantic.

I used to play 'music chess' with one of my oldest mates, Phil Langham. The activity involved each taking turn at selecting a different track that would either completely floor the previous tune, or introduce you to something altogether new.

I don't think I had a response to this track?

MELTING POT - BOOKER T & THE M.G.'S

There is only one race - the Human Race.

Racists go home!

OH S**T - THE PHARCYDE

Oh s**t!

INTERNET WARRIOR - OH NO ONO

It's all too easy to be an Internet Warrior, but not so easy being a warrior of the Internet?

FOUR DREAMS - JESCA HOOP

This album was sent to me as a recommendation several months ago, by Jason Smith. A very good friend, someone I've known since my days as a paper-boy in Chandlers Ford. Another good friend, Dave Miller, also a former colleague from the same paper shop, categorized it as 'first world middle age white bloke stuff'.

I'd been asking for pointers on new music, and this track jumped out at me straight away as being worthy of inclusion on a mixed genre show.

SURVIVALISM - NINE INCH NAILS

This track started out as being part of my

M  E  E  C  H  A  D  E  M  I  C show.

Unfortunately, I think it was issued at the worst possible time, and has proved to be very unpopular as a consequence.

Posting an image of a virus on the same weekend that all sport got cancelled, proved to be a bit too much for the majority of listeners.

It's too bad that nobody listened to it, because I am very pleased with the finished mix, I'll probably end up reposting it some time in the future to see what happens.

Ideally, it would be great if I could save it for my final ever show. It would make perfect sense to wrap everything up with that specific mix of songs...

HONEY BEE (LET'S FLY TO MARS) - GRINDERMAN

I've started to hear loads of references here and there in lots of very different styles of music that relate to the current global health/financial/social crisis. The lyrics on this track are particularly creepy.

VENTILATOR BLUES - THE ROLLING STONES

As above, this may be pushing my luck a little at the moment in terms of bad taste.

Rules and guidelines may just about be ready to get thrown out the window....

when things really do start to break down.

Plus, I personally have first hand experience of the benefits of mechanical ventilation.

DAZED AND CONFUSED - LED ZEPPELIN

A good description for the 45th.

UNIVERSAL PRISONER - EDDIE HARRIS & LES McCANN

A good description for US.

My very first draft included another version of Compared To What by this duo.

However, I'm happier to use this track, as it gives a better balance to the whole mix.

BURN IN HELL - TWISTED SISTER

From my absolute favourite film that does not include spice worms, gangsters, space wizards, Martin Sheen, or a shark.
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure ('85) is always guaranteed to put a huge smile on my face whether it’s my 1st, or 101st viewing. Twisted Sister were part of the Warner Brothers back-lot set piece, as they recorded a music video for this track. I am not particularly keen on this variety of ‘big hair metal’, but it evokes memories of a film that is very special in my view.

SUPERFICIAL - AMP FIDDLER

Any excuse to shoehorn the ultra smooth Joseph Anthony Fiddler.

BEHAVIOUR REPORT - L'ORANGE & JEREMIAH JAE

Plenty more to follow, if we're talking about L'Orange.

I overheard "That's french for orange you know" in one of my local Indian restuarants.

These 'youngsters' were talking about a possible name for a band they were putting together.

I didn't want to alert them to the fact I'd overheard their conversation, but I hope they stumble across this North American B-Boy's work, before they start printing any t-shirts.

L'Orange has even put stuff together with Kool Keith, so expect more...

Get ready for NO RAP HIP-HOP. If all goes according to plan?

LIGHT MY FIRE - ANANDA SHANKAR

I've been desperate to include this track for a very long time.

When I'd decided to use the following track on this show, I couldn't not use it. The two tracks fit together really well.

Listening to this now, makes me glad that I didn't use it for any

CURRY MADNESS shows.

Pretty good on it's own, but far too corny for an Indian restaurant.

HEY JOE - CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG

Following on with this rather creepy version of the classic Jimi standard.

CRY OF HOSANA - THE ASTEROID No.4

I was always very keen to wind up with this, and everything else kind of logically fell into place... (to me anyway).
