BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
You will recognize this from the Portishead track Sour Times, my very first exposure to the band. Of course this was going to get my attention, being a big fan of the work of both Lalo Schifrin and Portishead. I also heard this again fairly recently when watching Questlove spin a few of his favourite records on his Twitter feed.
You may have noticed that I've reversed all the Bruce Lee additions to this. I've always really loved this film and the Soundtrack that goes with it, but have thought that the action sound effects were a bit lame. Reversing these annoyances, signals to the listener my distaste, without losing any of the drama.
HA!
I've just been reminded of the 70's Disaster Movie Rollercoaster ('77), and I'm sure I've mentioned previously just how much I appreciate Disaster Movies from the seventies.
I cannot begin to express just how much I love this, running through to the Main Titles sequence from Dirty Harry ('71), I suppose I just have?
Cinematic perfection then, marrying the tremendous opening visuals to this fantastic piece of music.
Plenty more Dirty Harry to follow...
Not from a Soundtrack as far as I know, but taken from the same album that contained the Theme From King Kong, that I used on MEECH'S COOLEST FILM MUSIC.
You must click on the link above to check out Mr. Schifrin bearing down on the World Trade Centre much like....King Kong?
As you may have guessed, I was never going to include the main theme from Bullitt ('68), but I can allow myself to use this. Virtually the same, but different enough to satisfy me.
From a non-soundtrack Disco Funk album, possibly inspired by Herbie Hancock's synthesized voice work from the year before?
60's TV cop show stuff.
60's TV felon type stuff I'm guessing?
My very first thoughts when listening to these next two offerings was a Disco knock off alternative to Saturday Night Fever. However, they are actually from a gritty LA based film about Mexican gang culture, that sounds very much like something I need to check out, Boulevard Nights ('79).
Continued from above.
The title track from that 60's TV cop show stuff.
I guess this is the climactic scene in Mannix?
The title track from another of his non-Soundtrack Jazz/Funk albums capitalising on his fame and popularity in Hollywood I presume.
As the title suggests, additional music to accompany the original IMF.
I've been toying with the idea of using this for a few years now, not managing to fit it in to any of my mixed genre shows.
I couldn't not include this, bit of a strange one!
Another entry from Enter The Dragon ('73), I must say that I don't really remember this from the film, probably because there is far too much happening on screen at the same time.
The Latin sound of Lalo Schifrin all the way from 1959.
Setting the scene for Mr McQueen to look even cooler.
Linking up with Dizzy Gilespie for some serious Jazz/Boogie grooving.
The music that accompanies what many consider to be the absolute greatest car chase in cinematic history.
Even more music to overcome (almost) impossible odds.
Incidentally, I quite like Tom Cruise, and look forward to every instalment of his James Bond wannabe franchise. Upon reflection, I think the title is all wrong. From memory, I think all the so called impossible mission's have had a successful outcome.
Maybe a few wives, or girlfriends have succumb along the way, but the main aim has mostly been fulfilled.
I was watching Enter The Dragon ('73) again very recently, and freaked out when I recognized the break from Mella by DJ Food that I used on 90 MINUTE BREAKsDOWN.
'I Gots To Know'
You may have guessed that I quite like Dirty Harry ('71).
Getting away from all the ultra cool Jazz/Funk Soundtrack stuff, and not forgetting that Lalo Schifrin is my second favourite Argentinian, after Diego Maradona of course.
As above.
HOW TO OPEN AT WILL THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WINDOW
From another non-Soundtrack album, but sounds very much like something you would expect to hear playing out over the closing titles...
**Apologies for including the dates with all my film links, I'm just future proofing my website against any possible remakes that feature Denzel Washington or Bruce Willis.
*That'll do for now, I'll be watching Dirty Harry ('71) for the next few hours.😎
