BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS

MOVIN' ON UP - PRIMAL SCREAM

A great song that opens a top drawer album.

This announces where we are straight away, and lets us know where we are headed.

LOVE SPREADS - THE STONE ROSES

This arrived amidst great fanfare after a considerable break.

I don't think it gets played an awful lot, but it reminds me of a very specific time and place.

I FEEL LOVE - CURVE

I remember hearing this for the first time, and thinking....

What a very good idea?

I would have probably selected something like this if there was a Fantasy Football equivalent for the music industry.

ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK YOUR HEART - SAINT ETIENNE

This Weatherall mix was removed at a fairly late stage from my ANDREW WEATHERALL REMIX TRIBUTE, but works much better with this set of tracks.

DE-LUXE - LUSH

When Mrs. planetmeech first met my old pal Skinner for the first time, she inadvertently offended him by asking if he was a 'shoe gazer'?

I'll take full responsibility for not pre-empting the meeting a bit better, I should have realised that she'd not had any real exposure to blokes with long hair before.

DEVIL'S HAIRCUT - BECK

I've just realised, as well as reflecting what I consider to be typical summertime tunes of the 90's, I've attended gigs by most of these artists!

With the possible exception of Beck, although I may have lost that memory?

Oh, and Bomb The Bass.

*I've just noticed that Beck was on the bill at a festival I may have attended, but I really can't confirm having witnessed it or not??

Fortunately, I still have the ticket stubbs for most of these other artists.

COME TOGETHER - SPIRITUALIZED

Quality.

These were on a double bill with Sonic Youth at The Royal Festival Hall that I went to to with my very good friend Phil Langham. I don't really recall much about the show, but I do remember that we met Bobbie Gillespie in the bar at half time - which was nice!

SHE WATCH CHANNEL ZERO - SENSER

Another gig that I'd attended, apparently at Southampton University?

I have absolutely no recollection of that either, but I do have vague memories of it being played over the PA system in between sets at a festival somewhere??

BLACK STEEL - TRICKY

Continuing with the Public Enemy theme...

UNFINISHED SYMPATHY - MASSIVE ATTACK

Continuing with the Bristol theme...

DREAM SOME PARADISE - INTASTELLA

I bought this single on a complete whim.........YESSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssss!

It quite rightly prompted the purchase of the album, and many further releases. My continued appreciation even necessitated attending a gig at the now demolished Borderline club on Charring Cross Road with the esteemed HEAVY PC.

You can drive to Picadilly Circus from Eastleigh, in virtually one straight line. Luckily, because this was long before satellite navigation systems or even (maps?).

Getting from A to B used to involve the humble road sign,

and being able to read the geography of the land.

Parking in Chinatown gave us very good access to the venue.

Unfortunately, the return journey proved to be a little less straight forward, managing to take in St. Paul's Cathedral at one stage, before heading to.......Kilburn????

If you know the rough layout of London, you'll understand just how ridiculous our trip home was!

COWGIRL - UNDERWORLD

Dubnobasswithmyheadman was introduced to me by HEAVY PC long before Danny Boyle introduced a specific song to every living person in the U.K!

Towards the end of the 90's, I did get a considerable amount of enjoyment out of this album, along with Second Toughest, and Beaucoup Fish. Unfortunately, as a result of one record, I've completely overlooked Underworld for the last twenty plus years.

I've just put the offending track on to refresh my memory, and had to switch it off even before 1 second had passed!

Of course, I have no such problem listening to it whenever I'm watching Trainspotting ('96) - The best film to encapsulate the 90's!

I WILL be listening to those three albums mentioned again soon though...

SPACE SHANTY - LEFTFIELD

This also needs a little dust off.

THREE LITTLE BIRDIES DOWN BEATS - THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS

There was a time when I thought The Chemical Brothers could not put a foot wrong. Sadly, I saw them on the televised Glastonbury broadcast last year and found it all a bit boring. However, this album and Live At The Social did set me on a slightly different musical course, and led to many, many nights out at Turnmills, when the Beats were still Big.

SANTA CRUZ - FATBOY SLIM

(see above).

RAVE ON - HAPPY MONDAYS

Sums up the sentiment perfectly.

VISIONS OF YOU - JAH WOBBLE & THE INVADERS OF THE HEART

I recall Jah Wobble and his mastery of the Bass were the hot ticket on the festival scene around this time, as well as contributing quite significantly to key material for both Primal Scream and The Orb.

I've just noticed that the former member of PiL, has remained quite busy in the intervening years...

I'm currently listening (for the very first time) to an incredible piece of music!!!

Jah Wobble's Solaris, it's reminiscent of the sort of tripped out Jazz Fusion from the 70's that I love.

*I feel there is much to catch up with here, all very different.

It may even require a dedicated project at some stage...

BUG POWDER DUST - BOMB THE BASS (KRUDER & DORFMEISTER MIX)

This featured on a compilation that proved very popular amongst my core group of mates around this time. I've managed to find this down tempo mix to use as the close out track, that also represents the shifting of my listening habits towards the end of the decade.

*I'm still listening to Jah Wobble's Solaris - the first two tracks together, are just under 45 minutes long!
