This was released after what seemed like an eternity. The first proper album of theirs to come out this side of my head trauma, so holds a very special place in my development as a fan of Alex Patterson.
This may be the first instance of an MC appearing on a record by The Orb.
Not used here because of it's unique curiosity in The Orb discography, but mainly because I have strong memories of listening to it whenever I would run through the later albums - probably due to it's uniqueness?
LATCHMERE ALLOTMENTS (NOCTURNAL SUNSHINE MIX)
A very Dub heavy piece from the Battersea area of London.
I included this at an early stage because it featured on the web based project badorb.com, a failed Internet record label that only sold vinyl.
Managing to be ahead of it's time and a step behind in the same instance???
What I need to share here gets a little complicated, so I just need to get it straight in my mind...
Many years previously, I included an unknown Orb track that I recorded from The John Peel Show on the Christmas Eve Meech compilation. I had mistakenly marked it down as this track, simply because it contained a sample of Flavor Flav calling out the name 'Chuck'.
Unfortunately, this tape is the only absentee in my cassette collection of all my original compilations. I suspect, it may have been in my very last car, and was subsequently crushed down to a fairly small cube of scrap.
Meanwhile, back on planetmeech....
I was listening to History Of The Future earlier in the year, and the missing track jumped out at me, and is in fact called Suck My Kiss.
Sorry to go off on a tangent. Thanks to this mix up, we now have this 'toe tapper' included here, and I can complete Christmas Eve Meech later in the year.............. maybe around that main religious festival???
I tried to get this on one of my faster paced Curry Madness projects, but gave up in the end. I think only the track title relates to Indian dining?
Minimal Bleeps, get ready....
I hope that Alex Paterson is still releasing music in 2026.
I'll understand though, if the touring and live appearances slow down.
Moonbuilding 2703 AD is an absolutely incredible later album that I highly recommend if you've not heard it already - well worth listening to in it's entirety. Nearly all the tracks are a lot longer than the average, so I've had to include the shortest on the album and a remix (below), to give a taster of it's excellence.
This is from the brilliant No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds album that was released last year to accompany their anniversary tour. I've already sneaked in two tracks from that album to my early shows, so wanted to avoid using anything else. But I really needed to use this here though and place it at the beginning of the second half.
Moving through the gears now, into Ambient House territory.
BATTER C BUNNY'S MUNCHING ORBULAR MARROW MIX
If anybody recognises the sample at the beginning and core of this, please let me know, it's driving me mad. I suspect it could be Brian Cant from Trumpton or something very similar.
MOONBUILDING 2703 AD (TEEBS MOON GROTTO MIX)
As mentioned above.
This has always stood out for me, from the Bicycles & Tricycles album, and works well here with the rundown towards the end.
Orbsessions Vol. 3, or Baghdad Batteries, or both?
I'm pleased with the positioning here, linking up these last few tracks. This also brings back memories of a few live shows that I've attended.
Prepare the surfaces around your speakers and sedate your four legged friends!
This low frequency offering will shake your foundations.
Every now and then, I come across a tune that I listen to again and again, even consecutively, this was one such track.
This reminds me of the 'reprise' at the end of the Prince Charming album by Adam & The Ants. My very first record, incidentally, if you disregard any novelty records aimed at children.
