BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
SAGAR (THE OCEAN) - ANANDA SHANKAR
A breathtaking Pink Floyd style number to ease us into the next course, not forgetting that all this is intended to lend a certain ambience to the dining experience. I would have been over the moon also to have been listening to this on one of our many motoring excursions.
An absolute corker of an album that I'm unable to find much out about other than the Discogs link. Something I picked up on the strength of the cover and promising title.
NEW DELIRE (DU FILM MANON 70) - MICHEL COLOMBIER
You can usually rely on music from a 1970’s French film to lend a touch of quality. This piece, whilst adding to the Eastern feel, making you think of Indian restaurants with extremely tired decor, also provides the quality you’d expect.
Fitting in with the more psychedelic tone and feel that we associate with Indian music. This also features on the Bombay Jazz Palace, but this track may have moved up a gear slightly - only slightly though.
BOLLYWOOD BEAT - DJ 2BAD & RAVI CHANDRA
Notice that I have removed the voice-over just after the beginning as it didn’t seem very natural and certainly seemed out of place. If you ever need to listen to this track via the link provided, you’ll see what I mean.
DUM MARO DUM (TAKE ANOTHER TOKE) - ASHA BHOSLE & KRONOS QUARTET
A remix possibly, of a song from a Bollywood Musical (when is a Bollywood film not a Musical?) I think Asha Bhosle must have been under contract to sing in every film coming out of Bollywood at that time?
HASCHISH PARTY - GEORGES GAVARENZ
More 1970's French Cine music.
HERBSPLATTE 69 - VALENTINE MEHLER
Heavy Beats and Sitar - yes please!
I had planned to layer some philosophical quotes over this to tie in with the first instalment of CURRY MADNESS,
but this track doesn't really need the embellishment - well done Chuck!
KAHIN DEEP JALE KAHIN DIL - BALLY SAGOO FEAT. GUNJAN
This lady can really sing!!!
Haunting and mesmerising, should have really featured on the first Curry Madness, but I've only just relocated it in my hard drive. This appeared on my original Curry Madness playlist which unfortunately only existed on the stolen laptop previously belonging to Fleet Tandori. I'm relieved to have found the song again, as it works really well at bringing the first half to a close.
L.S.D. PARTIE - ROLAND VINCENT
If I'm not careful, I'll end up with a whole mix with nothing but French film music from the 60's and 70's - I'll stop now as it's not looking good when things are written up, but it will sound superb as you tuck into your Bhuna.
Turning Electronic now we've passed the mid point.
The cicada chirp in the rhythm of this reminds me of Don't Fight It Feel it from Screamadelica, so another tie in to the previous instalment. I think I extended this out to join to the next track but can't really tell anymore, so it must have done the trick?
SAME BEAT - RAVI HARRIS & THE PROPHETS
A James Brown inspired groove, given the Indian treatment.
This was brought in to substitute something that sounded great for the most part, but was completely ruined by over-produced lame scratching samples that you'd expect to hear on mid 90's Pop output. The track was left in until a very late stage as it did fit the feel really well. Every time I listened to it though, the samples wound me up more and more, hence the inclusion of this number.
Oh, and I think I can hear a sample of The Orb for good measure.
INDIAN SECRET (SHANKAR MIX) - NITIN SINGH
This wouldn't be out of place on a Latin themed mix, but as the title suggests, is secretly Indian.
BAJU BANDH (FEAT. SHRUTI PATHAK & RHUNA RIZVI - BANDISH PROJEKT
This gets a little boisterous in the middle, I may have overstepped the mark with the diners?
LAMENT (SWAYZAK MIX) - BADMARSH & SIRI
Calming things down to a degree with something I picked up a while back.
SECRET CHANNEL - TABLA BEAT SCIENCE
Hectic Tabla action to prepare us for what's coming...
