IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,
THEN PLEASE
NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
You probably recognise this from the opening of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, it was featured about a year earlier for a scene on Baseballs Of Death. Used here as the opener because I wanted to replicate the format of a typical show over the course of the 90 minutes.
As above in terms of placing but felt uncomfortable about using the actual theme released by Jan Hammer because it just sounded too long and unfamiliar. The condensed version works better and should be much more recognisable.
DON'T NEED A GUN - BILLY IDOL ep13,s3
?
Nice to hear the trademark shimery synth crescendo layered over the 'safe' rock. I think I'll struggle getting another Billy Idol song in a show though.
BEDBUGS AND BALLYHOO - ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN ep.22,s4
I made a big fuss when I featured these artists on -10 Rocky 5, because (I thought) it was against everything I believed in at the time. They have finally cropped up again and this time out of merit? The lyrics are rather silly but what can you expect from a band calling themselves that??
The other disclaimer being 'it was the eighties'.
Although, I have earmarked another track by them for a future set??? - I'll get my coat!
UNDER THE MILKY WAY - THE CHURCH ep.7,s5
Fits in rather well and helps at setting the mood, surprised to hear the use of bagpipes on this - the eighties?
MAYBE THE POET - BRUCE COCKBURN ep20,s2
Very nearly venturing into Soft Rock territory but managing just to stay on the 'safe' side of Rock.
HERE IT IS...TAKE IT! - THAT PETROL EMOTION ep.7,s5
Good at breaking up the relative calm of it's fellow eighties cohorts.
MODILIANI (LOST IN YOUR EYES) - BOOK OF LOVE ep.6,s4
Good at restoring the relative calm...
BABA O'RILEY - THE WHO ep.3,s2
A very late addition to this set as I was really keen to use everything that had only been recorded in the eighties. I had mistakenly used Cat People by David Bowie, only to find out that it didn't actually appear in the show after looking for the episode reference. I had recently seen this episode again so felt very comfortable using this particular track.
SPACE INVADER - THE PRETENDERS ep21,s2
More of a musical interlude, but pulls everything together really well. Do not be surprised to hear from The Pretenders again...
WINDSWEPT - BRYAN FERRY ep.1,s2
A belated Mother's Day gift.
Dave Gilmore also plays guitar on this track I'm told, so a gift as well to all the Pink Floyd enthusiasts.
FACE THE FACE - PETE TOWNNSEND ep.14,s2
I have to credit this track for being the reason I started this whole project. I had a VHS recording of a few episodes from season 2 when I was of schooling age and I used to watch them endlessly in between my 'rigourous' study time. I had absolutely no details of this at the time but loved this song and added it to a cassette of music recorded from the TV!
Thanks Internet, you're cool.
Not the first time I've used a track by Yello, they made an appearance on my second ever driving companion tape -17 THE BEST COMPILATION which should be available shortly...
A German New Wave/Dance Pop band that were label mates with Frankie Goes To Hollywood. I'm pretty sure that I've never ever written the term New Wave in an actual sentence before, so this is a first!
I think everyone should remember the music video for this, and I always associate this with Crockett looking out mournefully across Biscayne Bay.
IN DULCE DECORUM - THE DAMNED ep.4,s3
Kickstarting a very different run of songs....
WASTELAND - THE MISSION ep16,s3
Breaking the unwritten rule here with HEAVY PC, more by coincidence than intention though.
VET FOR THE INSANE - FIELDS OF THE NEPHELIM ep.3,s4
That'll do nicely!
GO INSANE - LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM ep.8,s1
Bringing us back with a bang.
If you're a hardcore fan (Jim),
it will come as no surprise that I've decided to close things off with this?
The most amazing song on the whole set and used perfectly to round off the very last episode of the final series.
I have to warn you though, it's going to get quite emotional.
If you need a chat to go through things, please drop me a direct message on Twitter.
I'll see what we can do to get things out in the open and move on from these tough times without the show appearing on our screens every week.
I may have to stop now as I have a lump in my throat.😥
