This feels very much like movie soundtrack material, the atmospheric urgency is very cinematic and would be appropriate for opening a particularly watch-able film.
Perfect then for me to use it to open my Les McCann dedicated mix.
Much like the recent film of the same name, could have a double meaning?
And we know that Les likes layers.
Could easily have been used to open the mix, but applied as the No.2 works for me.
Talking of Layers...
Sparking my interest with a little bit of Latin.
Sparking in my interest by promising something a bit freaky?
I've read here and there about the actual sound quality on the original recording of this album (Talk To The People), it may not be such an issue with the electric fuzziness of this track?
(See above).
The basic effects of Amplification and Noise reduction that I use whenever I put my shows together has helped slightly with the overall feel.
The vocal here helps to mark everything out, and the Marvin Gaye connection is very welcome. I'm sure that the opening has been cleverly sampled since, but it's bugging me as to exactly where? Possibly 9 Lazy 9.......Get ready...
This sounds very much like Roy Ayers, but I can't find anything to confirm that.
I suppose I shouldn't make that assumption, there must have been others on the scene with that same percussive skill?
LET YOUR LEARNING BE YOUR EYES
Vocal smoothing to wind up the first 45 minutes.
Trademark groovin' with...... Mr Eddie Harris.
Those priceless fingers are really cementing their reputation here.
Jazz/Funk/Soul✅
Creeping ever so slightly into 70's sitcom.
COLONEL RYKKEN'S SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN
Fried Chicken...MMmmm, hold on a second, I've not eaten chicken for years.
Slowing everything down to give those fingers a rest, and setting us up for the final track.
I'll confess that I don't know what this means.
It probably needs no explanation, and manages to tuck in at the end quite well.
