 ORA PRO NOBIS

(ANCHE SE VOLESSI LAVORARE CHE FACCIO? '72)

In Lazio, four young people named Riccetto, Girasole, Lallo and Tombarolo try to make a living by stealing what they find in the tombs of the rich. Being inexperienced, they often find themselves in trouble or pursued by the police.

What a groovy start to this track? I did have a little fiddle around with the opening, but thought it best to keep everything intact.....for now.

Google Translate doesn't really work here, but the film title converts as something along the lines of...If you want to work, do what I do?

TEMPA PER LE GOFF

(LE CLAN DES SICILLIENS '69)

A young, ambitious mobster plans an elaborate diamond heist while seducing the daughter of a ruthless mob patriarch as a determined police commissioner closes in on all of them.

A perfect tune for use as No. 2, I'm not finished with this film yet either...

UNA STANZA VUOTA (VERSIONE SINGOLO

(SVEGLIATI E UCCIDI '66)

Luciano Lutring is a dangerous fugitive in Italy, he meets Candida, a nightclub singer and they fall in love. On their back is Candida's lover Franco Magni, a two-bit gangster.

Luciano Lutring is the dangerous fugitive featured on my cover art.

This sounds very much like something that David Holmes unearthed for use in one of the Oceans soundtracks.

RIFLESSIONI ANGOSCIOSE

(IMPUTAZIONE DI OMICIDIOCPER UNO STUDENTE '72)

During a clash between demonstrating laborers, a policeman and a student are both killed. In charge of the case are a magistrate and two commissioners.

Chronicle Of A Homicide is the much snappier title by far, the Italian billboard posters must have been huge back in the 70's?

CITTA VIVA 1

(IL BANDITO DAGLI OCCHI AZZURI '80)

An office employee, pretending to be weak and crippled, reveals himself as a ruthless criminal.

The artwork here tips us off as to what we may expect, and the bandito in question is none other than Franco Nero.

UN PO' PER GIORNO

(IMPUTAZIONE DI OMICIDIOCPER UNO STUDENTE '72)

As further above.

SPORCO MA DISTINTO

(LE RUFFIAN '83)

Aldo, in his fifties, works in a gold mine in Northern Canada, in the middle of a bunch of adventurers.

Sounds like things could erupt into something that could be associated with criminal activity?

Besides, the title character looks as though he's not prepared to take any shit...

ORIENT EXPRESS (SUSPENCE 1)

(ORIENT EXPESS '79)

I can't seem to find any details on this I'm afraid.

I'm guessing that its from a tv mini series about the Orient Express, and I seem to remember the actual train being the scene of one or two possible murders over the years, and that does constiture criminal activity.

ANCHE SE VOLESSI LAVORARE CHE FACCIO, Pt. 5

(ANCHE SE VOLESSI LAVORARE CHE FACCIO? '72)

The main theme for the film used in my opening track.

LA CINA É VICINA, Pt. 1

(LA CINA É VICINA '67)

Vittorio is running as a Socialist candidate for the municipal office, but he gets overwhelmed by love, family and political entanglements.

This manages to pefectly convey the feeling of a socialist municipal office.

PEUR SUR LA VILLE

(PEUR SUR LA VILLE '75)

Commissaire Letellier and Inspector Moissac are tracking Minos, a serial killer whose victims are women.

This is very reminicent of something I've heard before that featured in a Sergio Leone western.

VITE STROZZATE

(VITE STROZZATE '96)

?

Looks like an Italian version of Bronson.

COINCIDENZE (FILM MIX)

(L'ULTIMO TRENO DELLA NOTTE '75)

A pair of psychotic hoodlums and an equally demented nymphomaniac woman terrorize two young girls on a train trip from Germany to Italy.

Sounds interesting......if you like 70's exploitation cinema.

VERUSCHKA

(VERUSCHKA '71)

Fashion photographer Franco Rubartelli's visually lush and moody head film about European supermodel Veruschka.

Not really fitting the crime template, but it is a crime that I've only just heard this.

MISSIONE COMPIUTA

(OGRO '79)

This film stars Gian Maria Valonte, he may have a girls name, but I would consider him amongst the finest (as in badest) screen villians that have ever existed.

COPKILLER

(COPKILLER '83)

A pair of corrupt cops spend their illegal cash on an uptown New York City apartment.

I really should have come across this film before now!

It stars Harvey Keitel................and John Lydon!!!

SOTTO I PONTI DELLA CITTÀ 1

(IL BANDITO DAGLI OCCHI AZZURI '80)

An office employee, pretending to be weak and crippled, reveals himself as a ruthless criminal.

See above.

ANGHIGO

(ANCHE SE VOLESSI LAVORARE CHE FACCIO? '72)

See above.

I really need to see this film now, or hope that Steven Soderbergh films an updated version - he may have already done so?

COCKEYE'S SONG

(ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA '84)

A former Prohibition-era Jewish gangster returns to the Lower East Side of Manhattan over thirty years later, where he once again must confront the ghosts and regrets of his old life.

I think I was aware of this memorable piece of music long before I watched the film, or new of its significance in the Sergio Leone canon. Even before it was heavily sampled for De Niro by The Disco Evangelists, who I've just found out this very second included.........David Holmes.

I'm sure that I didn't know that before, but if I did......my memory really sucks.🤕

PASSAGGIO SECONDO - MULTIPLA II PEZZO

(MACCHIE SOLARI '75)

A pathology med student and a priest team up to investigate a wave of suicides blamed on sun spots and discover a number of them to be actual murders.

This could be a typical episode of Quincy?

SEGUITA

(GLI OCCHI FREDDI DELLA PAURA '71)

Respectable lawyer Peter picks up Anna, an Italian woman of dubious virtue, from the club and takes her back to his Uncle's place. They soon discover they are not alone. A gunman Quill (Julian Mateos), is waiting for them.

All sounds a bit seedy, in a good way though.

This one actually features Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, lending the freeform Jazz sound.

THE STRENGTH OF THE RIGHTEOUS (MAIN TITLE)

(THE UNTOUCHABLES '87)

During the era of Prohibition in the United States, Federal Agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop ruthless Chicago gangster Al Capone and, because of rampant corruption, assembles a small, hand-picked team to help him.

This film is obviously American, but features an Italian criminal, probably the most well known of the lot, Al Capone.

Ennio Morricone's work here shares many similarities and themes with his work on the cinema of his home country, and because of that I needed to strip out many tracks that were just too similar.

THE SICILIAN CLAN

(THE SICILIAN CLAN '69)

A young, ambitious mobster plans an elaborate diamond heist while seducing the daughter of a ruthless mob patriarch as a determined police commissioner closes in on all of them.

All sounding very Sicilian.

RAPTUS OMICIDA (#4)

(MILANO ODIA: LA POLIZIA NON PUÒ SPARARE '74)

A small-time homicidal maniac kidnaps the daughter of a rich man, prompting a hardened detective to work outside the law to pursue him.
This title translates as........................Get ready...
Milan Hates: The Police Cannot Shoot, but the IMDB link refers to the international title: Almost Human. This sounds very much like an Italian version of Dirty Harry. Another Italian film that I would seriously consider tracking down and adding to the ever growing list to watch.

DIMENTICARE PALERMO

(DIMENTICARE PALERMO '90)

Carmine Bonavia wins election as the mayor of New York on a promise to legalize drugs. After the election, he marries Carrie and goes to his ancestral home of Sicily for their honeymoon.

As already mentioned, this could quite easily be forgiven for being confused with The Untouchables.

JEANNE E LA SPIAGGIA

(THE SICILIAN CLAN '69)

Comes with the trademark Morricone 'boing'. Still sounding very Sicilian though.

COLPO (#3)

(LA PROPRIETÀ NON È PIÙ UN FURTO '73)

A bank cashier, who's allergic to banknotes, quits his job after an armed robbery. He decides to start a new life, as a thief. He starts by targeting a popular former client, a butcher. But being a neurotic Marxist has its drawbacks.

Adding a bit of tension with those crazy sound effects.

EU FIZ MAL EM DIZER

(AD OGNI COSTO '67)

At the suggestion of a retired professor, a motley group of criminals plans the robbery of a Brazilian diamond company but it must contend with a new alarm system and the mutual distrust among its members.

Managing to slide a bit of Latin inspired music into proceedings. From the description, it does faithfully tie in with the crime theme. However, the poster that is attached to the link could suggest more of a light hearted feature in the style of a British Sex Comedy....Confessions Of A Brazillian Diamond Heist Member? Not half..

LA TRAPPOLA SCATTA A BEIRUT (TITOLI)

(LA TRAPPOLA SCATTA A BEIRUT/IL SUCCESSO '66)

Something bad is being planned in Beirut, and it has something to do with a man called The Sheikh, who has only four fingers. It seems this isn't a lone incident.

This is from the Agent 505 series of films that are an obvious attempt to cash in on the espionage/spycraft phenomenon that was sweeping the globe back in the 60's.

I'm guessing this didn't catch on in the same way as those other

films that the Brocolli family produced.

AGENTE 505 IN AZIONE

(LA TRAPPOLA SCATTA A BEIRUT/IL SUCCESSO '66)

See above.

These tracks take pride of place in the run towards the end of the show. I'd seriously consider adding this to the fabled 'Best Of' mix just before everything has run its course (life, enthusiasm, water, electricity....the sun).

GUERRA E PACE, POLLO E BRACE 5

(GRAZIE ZIO, CI PROVO ANCH'IO '71)

I'm afraid that I can't give you any deatails on this either.

The film poster attached to the above link suggests maybe a relationship/romantic drama, but the title translates as: Thanks Uncle, I Try Too????

Whatever the film is about, Crime, Romance, Uncles, this piece of music works now, and the drums are incredible!

RAPTUS OMICIDA

(MILANO ODIA: LA POLIZIA NON PUÒ SPARARE '74)

See above.

BACI DOPO LE PALOTTOLE

(LA TRAPPOLA SCATTA A BEIRUT/IL SUCCESSO '66)

A brief bridging track to allow us to catch our breath between these two majestic pieces of music.

TERRORISTI! (4)

(IL GIUSTIZIEREI '75)

After his family is brutally murdered for an unknown reason, a computer engineer sets out to find those responsible.

This sounds very much like the Death Wish formula.....I'm down with that then!

I originally had this at the beginning before I discovered all the other wonderful music. I'm not suggesting that this isn't wonderful as well, but you'll see the logic of putting it right at the end.
