IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE MADE AWARE WHEN FUTURE PROJECTS BECOME AVAILABLE,
THEN PLEASE
THIS IS NOT A MONEY MAKING EXERCISE
IT HAS BEEN DONE PURELY FOR
THE LOVE OF MUSIC
AND WE ARE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST
BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS
Pick a subject and find tunes based around the subject. I did and chose SNAkEs
CORN SNAKES & BOURBON - KING CRAB
Hot, sweaty, modern western type music - picture an a-list actor pretending to be some sort of gnarly gangster burying a corpse in the hot Utah desert and telling you to buy ‘Filth’ the new mens fragrance from Chanel…or something.
RATTLESNAKE - KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD
This is the track that prompted/inspired the snake themed mixtape. A live favourite from The Lizard Wizard. A jaunty number no doubt.
TROUSERSNAKE (ORIGINAL MIX) - KI CREIGHTON
Difficult to find a decent track with this mirth-inducing title. Most tracks called Trousersnake are by dinosaur Australian comedians who also joke about the wife doing the ironing.
SNAKE IN THE GRASS - THE MURLOCS
Pretty pleased with this little garage rock number. I now have The Murlocs firmly on my radar.
BOA CONSTRICTOR - LOU GATHA & TOM EICHHAGEN
Groovy - could squeeze the life out of most clubbers (ahem)
Wasn’t sure about this when I first heard it, but it grows on me - this about a different type of snake - I think the snake has done the girl wrong.
A sea snake is a snake that lives in the sea.
Whilst researching tracks I also learnt about different snake species such as the Gaboon Viper. I love this noise - been annoying the neighbours with it
(I’m 49 this year).
SPITTING COBRA - BEAR FOOTE JACKSON
Spitting Cobra by Bear Foote Jackson - demands its own t-shirt?
I’m not sure if a Coral Snake lives in coral and is, therefore, a sea snake? Life’s great mysteries!
Not sure I’ve used the old D’n’B genre before - I’m sure purists will tell me I’m assigning the D’n’B label/genre incorrectly…yawn!
Really dark
WOOLEN FORTUNE VIPER - PADDY STEER
This was already in my library - research Paddy Steer on Youtube - he’s great.
SEA SNAKES BEWARE - THE SEA NYMPS
Not everybody will like this - I don’t care - it works for me. Another one that was already in the library
Good lord!
Dunno - I like small sweaty club electronica - this might be played at a club the size of Belgium - but it’s OK and crucially the title relates to the Sidewinder Snake which is useful on a snake-inspired mix tape.
BLACK SNAKE DREAM BLUES - BLIND LEMON JEFFERSON
I would also have the blues if I dreamt of black snakes. This is likely to be the oldest track ever to be used on planetmeech radio (™)?
