BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS

THE MAN WITH THE CHILD IN HIS EYES - KATE BUSH

A very personal favourite. Love the Bush – her sound, her image and the way she was just a little bit different to everyone else – can kinda relate to that!

WELCOME TO THE TERRORDOME - PUBLIC ENEMY

One of my, if not THE, favourite PE tracks – angry, hard and just sums up the PE sound for me!! Could have picked at least 10 others though – maybe in future episodes.

BATTLE CREEK BRAWL - GUNSHOT

UK Rap will feature heavily. Nostalgic for the time, represents the people I was hanging around with, and what we were getting up to.

THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD - LULU & DAVID BOWIE

An absolute anthem of a song with so many different versions of it around. I had a clip from a German TV show where Lulu sang this with Mr Bowie and for me it was an instant favourite.

GIMME SHELTER - MERRY CLAYTON

My favourite Rolling Stones track – up until recent times anyway (with the help from planetmeech!) – love this version!!

SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE - SPANKY WILSON

How anyone can not love this song is beyond me, again the various different versions I could’ve chosen will still remain but I absolutely love this one and it gives me an instant smile whenever it comes up on any playlist or mixtape!!!

DOOMSDAY OF RAP - HIJACK

IF YOU KNOW, YOU WILL KNOW! Bad tune from my favourite UK rap group of the late 80s/early 90s. Iconic in their Berghaus puffa’s!!!

WORD UP - CAMEO

A little bit of homage to my days working at Texas Homecare with Mr Meech. Quite often, he would appear from no-where holding something over his crotch to use as a codpiece like Mr Blackmon and then bellow out “Word Up” – often this would be Wallpaper!!!

HIT SONG - DJ FORMAT

Had to have at least 1 Matt Ford (he will always be known as this to me!!) song in the first volume. He has produced and recorded so many good songs over the years but this; alongside his cameo appearances in the video is my favourite. LEGEND!

I AINT NO JOKE - ERIC B & RAKIM

Probably the first hip-hop song/video I saw when staying up late to watch N-Sign Radio on Night Network – got me hooked from there! Rakim is still one of the greatest MC’s for me.

DON'T LET IT PASS YOU BY - UB40

Growing up in Eastleigh and around Velmore you couldn’t help but be influenced by ska, 2-tone and of course UB40. I was never really a fan of them but this particular song would be the one I would pick if I had to.

THE BOY WITH THE ARAB STRAP - BELLE & SEBASTIAN

Arrived in Hansford’s ears a little late – not being a fan of that guitar crap (Ryan Reeves), but really enjoy this song – and a number of others now I am more aware of them.

QUEEN BITCH - DAVID BOWIE

A big fan of the BBC4 *insert name here* at The BBC shows on a Friday night. The live performance of this was the first time I had ever heard it and from there on it became the go-to track and first play in “The Beast” (my fiesta!!)

LAZYITIS (ONE ARM BOXER MIX) - HAPPY MONDAYS

Happy Mondays > The Stone Roses. My mum got my brother/sister a Happy Mondays video that had this song as the first on there. Must have watched it over 1000 times. The image of Bez, Shaun and his dad playing football in the rain will always run through my head when this

YOU'RE SO COOL (TRUE ROMANCE) - HANS ZIMMER

The opening and closing music to my favourite film of all time. Hairs on the back of your neck stuff when it comes on.

TEMPORARY SECRETARY - PAUL McCARTNEY

The wonder of Spotify and the “Discover Weekly” Playlist. Discovered this in the past 6 months – thought it was going to be some heavy techno/early acid house track and was surprised to discover Mr McCartney as the artist.

DIDGERIDOO - APHEX TWIN

Seminal. End of.

WE ARE I.E. - LENNIE DE ICE

A classic bit of UK breakbeat rave. Memories (kind of ) of dancing in fields, tents, car-parks, clubs or warehouses to this – and whilst a lot of my friends preferred the more housier/early acid type music, I much preferred this style of music – probably due to my love for rap and hip-hop.

THE HORN TRACK - EGYPTIAN EMPIRE

As above – however, I do like a strong, hard noisy bit of techno and this one fits the bill perfectly. A very strong reminder of summers gone by with good friends and company – hasn’t aged particularly well though!!

FUCK COMPTON - TIM DOGG

My favourite “diss” song of all time. Tim appeared on many Ultramagnetic tracks back in their day – favourite hip-hop band – but this song is all that diss songs should be!!

WE WANT SOME PUSSY - 2 LIVE CREW

Mentioned Mr Ford already but our love for the Miami bass sound goes way back. 2 Live epitomised the sound and although this isn’t their best track (IMO) it was one that shocked people because of its lyrical content – and that made me very happy……

TWINZ - BIG PUN

Love love love this… As soon as the bass kicks in and Pun starts, it has ya bouncing. Big shout out to Med for the introduction to this one, on a Saturday afternoon, in a call centre, in Southampton – LIVING THE DREAM!!! “Dead in the middle of little Italy little did we know that we riddled some middlemen who didn’t do diddly.."
