I vaguely remember reading lots of music publications during my prolonged hospitalisation, although things did get a little spaced out here and there.
I must have asked the future Mrs planetmeech to pick up a few records for me to play around with upon my discharge. This release must have been requested as the theme and style stem from nights at The End, which was still fairly fresh in my mangled memory. So anything coming out of the End Recordings at the time must have proved very popular with me.
COTTON STAINS - TWO LONE SWORDSMEN
This was acquired during the happy, glorious days when there seemed to be a record store on virtually every street, and this featured on a triple album that used to get played a lot by me.
During these happy, glorious times as alluded to above, I tended to lean towards picking up almost anything from specific record labels. Tummy Touch on this occasion.
RHYTHM INFERNO - SUBURBAN GHETTO
As above. Dust 2 Dust on this occasion.
As above. Major Force via Mo Wax in this instance. This could, eventually turn out to be my equivalent of Teenage Kicks when played without any pitch adjustment? - Already earmarked for two further projects... Although I don't think I'll get away with playing it back to back?
I definitely listened to a lot of Richard Sen and The Wiseguys a few years earlier, so this record utilised a double pronged approach for relieving me of cash.
The title and artist sparked my interest for this record, which I found to be of benefit at the time and is still reaping rewards all these years later.
The original mix that was committed to mini disc and cassette many years previously had contained two tracks from the same album!! - The horror!
Fortunately, I was also playing this track around the same time and can swap this in or out depending on the strict rules of compilation management.
However, this ties in really well with other records used here and my enthusiasm for the End Recordings.
You will have noticed a slight leaning towards the End Recordings label over the course of this mix. In this case, the build up for the second half works well for the midway point and transitions well with the next track.
Another release from Dust 2 Dust, and I think the very first for me.
CURLED UP IN A BASSBIN - DIRTY BEATNIKS
I still remember listening to this album for the first time and was immediately impressed by the way the artists seemed to adopt a very different approach to that of their earlier work. So much so, that I felt compelled to spread the word amongst our group of friends. This was before Twitter, Facebook and mainstream email, so I probably had limited impact trying to get the message out.
Well, I hope to make up for it now by imploring anybody reading this to click the link above that will lead you to a truly great album.
BABY WANTS TO BLEEP - MICRONAUTS
I'm really not too sure why I bought this record, I have a feeling it was on a whim? I'm certainly glad that I took the plunge!
Also ties in really well with other records used here and my current gearing towards End Recordings.
Used here to fit the feel and flow plus my enthusiasm for all things Wall Of Sound.
THE BEAT THAT LOVE HAD - NICK FABER
A killer B-side on a 12" from Marble Bar that was also very popular with me.
