BELOW YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO THE FEATURED ARTISTS ALONG WITH BASIC NOTES EXPLAINING MUSICAL CHOICES AND INSPIRATIONS

BOSS DRUM - THE SHAMEN

A pretty good way to open a journey tape, and also hints at the slight leaning towards the Electronica within.

I WANT TO TAKE YOU HIGHER - SLY & THE FAMILY STONE

During my teenage years, I was an avid collector of vinyl, and used to attend record fairs on a regular basis. My record buying focus had been centred on something very specific, and on one such occasion, it was pointed out that I should check out Sly & The Family Stone. This particular record is fantastic and perfect for the second track of a journey tape.

Listening to it now, all these years later, I think I can hear what sounds like a mobile phone that's on vibrate towards the end. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't there before - Mandela Effect anyone??

IF YOU HAVE TO ASK - RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS

Funk in all it's various forms is very much appreciated.

W.F.L. (THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE MIX) - HAPPY MONDAYS

As touched on above, because I tended to zero in on specific records, I'd keep bumping into the same people at every event. One of my fellow record collectors has now been a very good friend for over thirty years, and I'm fairly sure that he's the reason for me including Happy Mondays all those years ago - thanks again Mr. Langham.

GENERATIONS (REGENERATION MIX) - INSPIRAL CARPETS

As not mentioned before, people of a certain age are required to attend formal schooling in the education system. One of my fellow pupils at one such education centre has now been a very good friend for over thirty years, and I'm positive that he's the reason I included this all those years ago - thanks Af(f).

The world of Electronica was still fairly new to me around this time, so I'd have to make do with the odd remix of an Indie record.

I WONDER U - PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION

The influence from Minneapolis was still fairly strong at that stage. This is more of an interlude than a standard song. Looking back at it now, I'd have to admit that it doesn't tie the different styles of music together at all. I'm sure there must have been a very clever reason at the time??

I'm not even sure how much involvement Prince had with this either, it sounds more like The Revolution just playing around and flexing their musical muscles.

But knowing Prince though, he probably did everything apart from the orchestral work.

COAST IS CLEAR - CURVE

A bit of energy and momentum paired with the ethereal Toni Halliday vocal.

Another song that I included from a V.H.S. recording,

probably The Chart Show.

SCARECROW - MINISTRY

This will grab the attention!

I've just swapped this with the Curve track to achieve a more logical flow.

I hope my tampering with history doesn't lead to any family members vanishing in the style of Back To The Future

The running order of Curve versus Ministry is probably not as important to the/my universe, compared to parents meeting for the very first time??

FREEDOM TRAIN - LENNY KRAVITZ

The retro rocker bringing down the curtain on the first half.

This was usualy the first track I selected on my iPod when I embarked on my commute home from the office - I'm on the Virgin Train, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

U.F.ORB - THE ORB

A driving Dub heavy groove to open the second 45 minutes.

FOOL'S GOLD - THE STONE ROSES

This typifies the sounds and styles that were being crossed over at the time.

I was never the biggest fan of the band, but this particular tune has always been hugely appreciated.

CONNECTED - STEREO MC'S

Unfortunately, this has now been used on a t.v. advertising campaign for portable telecommunication devices. When I first identified this as being worthy of inclusion, mobile phones were still the size of white goods and only used by the very few.

BOGEYMAN - HORRORS

This featured on a Rave tape that belonged to Mr. Hansford, and used to get played a fair bit in the car. I didn't know the exact name, or even the artist, and my usual method of identification could not find a match either. After much time spent trawling YouTube, I did manage to track it down. You can imagine the yelp I let out when I'd finally located the record.

Thanks 'Homes for providing the tunes all those years ago.

THE BEAUTIFUL ONES - PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION

This is probably my favourite track on the whole album, that's quite a compliment, as we all know there are some quite good tunes to choose from. The performance in the motion picture is also a highlight.

THE SENSUAL WORLD - KATE BUSH

I can't quite put my finger on what it is I like about Kate Bush. The female equivalent to David Bowie in terms of varied and interesting work, can always be relied upon to produce varied and interesting work.

Listening to it again all these years later, I think I can hear what sounds like the Bruce Lee chop from the old Atari game, I'm sure it wasn't there before....

EROTICA - MADONNA

The ever changing chameleon Queen of the music industry, love her or hate her, there's always something to love or hate. There are probably only around four or five of her songs that I really love, this being one.

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN - LED ZEPPELIN

I was tempted to substitute this for something by Spinal Tap, I'm unable to think of anything else now whenever I hear this.

SOMETHING IN THE WAY - NIRVANA

The conventional last track on Nevermind, used here in the same way.

No surprises though, intentional, or otherwise.
